[Bug 1758647] Re: ubiquity doesn't preselect the right default keyboard layout

2018-04-04 Thread Pjotr12345
For the sake of completeness, I repeated the test with the latest daily
build of Xubuntu Bionic (timestamped: 2018-04-04 06:05). Again: the
Xubuntu iso shows precisely the same results as with the Ubuntu iso.

This seems to rule out gnome-settings-daemon as culprit...

[Bug 1758647] Re: ubiquity doesn't preselect the right default keyboard layout

2018-04-04 Thread Pjotr12345
Just tested some other languages: exactly the same error happens when I
select Deutsch, Francais, Espanol or Italiano. They all present English
(US) as default preselected keyboard layout.

@Sebastien Bacher: have you already tested it with a UEFI machine
running in full UEFI mode, on the bare metal (not in VirtualBox)?

[Bug 1758647] Re: ubiquity doesn't preselect the right default keyboard layout

2018-04-04 Thread Pjotr12345
Sebastien Bacher: what happened on your system is the right result, but
that's not what happens on my machine Still not, when I use the
latest daily Ubuntu iso (timestamped 20180-04-03 07:03).

It's a test machine with UEFI running in full UEFI mode, which might
account for the difference with the result from your test. My approach
is straightforward:

- I boot my laptop from the iso.
- it shows only the normal Grub-like "terminal" lines, no GUI, with "Try Ubuntu
without installing" as first line of the four. Which is normal for UEFI.
- I select the first line
- after the desktop appears, I establish Wifi connection
- I start Ubiquity
- In the welcome screen of Ubiquity, I select "Nederlands"
- I click the button "Verder" (Continue)
- I'm being presented with the wrong preselected "Engels (VS)" keyboard layout,
like I described in the opening message in this thread.

[Bug 1077326] [NEW] [Xubuntu 12.10] Alacarte unchecks manually checked menu items

2012-11-10 Thread Pjotr12345
Public bug reported:

In Alacarte in Xubuntu 12.10, when you check a previously unchecked menu
item, the check disappears after you open a new category.

Steps to repeat:
- Perform a clean install of Xubuntu 12.10
- Install all updates
- Open Alacarte
- Check some unchecked item in one category, for example in Accessories: Power
Manager
- Click on another category, for example Internet
- Click on Accessories again: Power Manager is suddenly unchecked.

Note: this bug does not happen in Xubuntu 12.04; in Xubuntu 12.04
Alacarte functions fine.

[Bug 938756] [NEW] Gedit opens a useless blank file, when opening another file with gksudo

2012-02-22 Thread Pjotr12345
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 11.10, gedit opens a useless extra blank file, when you open
another file with gksudo.

Strangely enough, this does not happen when you start gedit with *sudo*
instead of *gksudo*. Nor does it happen when you start gedit normally,
without root permissions. It only happens with gksudo.

You can reproduce this bug as follows (example, in which you open

2010-01-01 Thread Pjotr12345
This bug also happens when I try to change the password in a terminal:
sudo passwd seems to work, it asks for a new UNIX password, after that

This is very weird; I've never seen a terminal command fail where a

[Bug 245197] Re: 2.22.3 stable update

2008-07-20 Thread Pjotr12345
Today I tested the newest version in proposed. The problem seems largely
fixed, but not quite.

When I check the system load caused by gnome-system-monitor using the
command top in the terminal, the CPU load is almost imperceptible.
That's good.

But when I check the system load by double-clicking gnome-system-
monitor, so that it opens it's own full-size window, I see the crazy
values again (confirmed by top). 15 % CPU, with peaks as high as 21 %.

So it appears that as long as you use gnome-system-monitor only as a
little meter in the panel, there's no problem with this new version. But
do not double-click it, for then the trouble starts.

For most practical puposes the meter is therefore allright now. Upstream
should deal with the remaining problem, though.

[Bug 173966] Re: java plugin not working in firefox 3 on ubuntu 8.04

2008-04-21 Thread Pjotr12345
I have found a perhaps better solution, at least for 32-bit-Ubuntu.

The thing is, that Sun Java JRE is no longer in ubuntu-restricted-
extras. It has been replaced by OpenJDK and the Icedtea plugin. But
those don't work as well as Sun Java.

These are the steps I followed:

1. I installed ubuntu-restricted-extras on a clean installation of the
Release Candidate of 8.04 (32-bit edition)

2. Afterwards, simply installing Sun Java JRE and plugin is not enough.
First you have to completely remove OpenJDK and the Icedtea plugin in
Synaptic. Only then you should install Sun Java JRE and plugin.

Then everything works fine again (at least on my computers).

It's a pity that Sun Java JRE has been replaced in ubuntu-restricted-
extras. Now a lot of people will have to do this manual correction
afterwards.

completely removed Tracker, using Synaptic, and also Deskbar Applet. Yet
I occasionally still have the problem...

This is really a bad bug, in urgent need of repair.

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2007-11-27 Thread Pjotr12345
No, before the removal of Tracker and Desbar applet it was also
occasionally. So nothing has changed.

This is a bug that probably doesn't affect people who have only one user
account on their PC's. But for people with two or more user accounts on
the same machine, this is really very bad.

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2007-11-22 Thread Pjotr12345
Possibly the bad guy is Tracker. Tracker is a plugin in Deskbar applet.
An hour ago, I've completely removed Tracker from my system with
Synaptic, and I'm curious if the problem is over now.

Maybe you could try this, too, and report here if it has been a success?

2007-11-22 Thread Pjotr12345
@doclist: I would like some clarification from you, because this is an
important matter. Tracker is installed in the standard installation, so
everybody has tracker automatically. So if I understand you correctly,
you already removed tracker before, and still have the problem?

[Bug 150471] Re: [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2007-11-20 Thread Pjotr12345
Even if you don't use Deskbar Applet, it is still active als long as it
resides in your panel. Therefore it can still be the culprit of this
nasty bug.

I haven't had this bug since I severely limited the search functions of
Deskbar Applet (in it's preferences): it now only searches files on my
hard disk.

[Bug 150471] [Gutsy] high processor activity after logging out and then logging in again

2007-10-08 Thread Pjotr12345
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When I log on as user A, log out and log in as user B, the processor
remains in a very high level of activity, almost 100 %. Top shows that
nautilus is the culprit.

For clarity: I don't use the switch user option: this happens when I
do a clean log out and then a log in.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
