[Bug 1003271] [NEW] evince freezes without crashing or using CPU while going through pdf
Public bug reported: 1) Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 2) evince: Installed: 3.4.0-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 3.4.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 3.4.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) When opening this pdf file (seems to be freely available for download and therefore checking) http://archneurpsyc.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?volume=55issue=3page=236 I would like to be able to read through it. 4) Tried several times to access pages 6 to 8 and during that evince froze reliably. It did not generate any CPU activity but clicking anywhere in the evince window did not cause any reaction (only minimizing, resizing using the window decoration still worked). Had to go into Activities overview (using gnome-shell) to be able to stop force quit evince. [Bug 737261] Re: Totem fails to play anything
Happens to me as well, and also vlc has issues in 11.04 - so it may be a more generic problem than with totem. Happens with lots of files - this file triggers the problem too: http://www.archive.org/download/RogerRamjetInTheCowboy/RogerRamjet008TheCowboy.ogv totem reports on the command line: The program 'totem' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'. (Details: serial 128 error_code 2 request_code 133 minor_code 19) vlc reports on the command line (plays audio but does not show video): [0x94633a4] signals interface error: signal 17 overriden (0x122d4c0) [0x94633a4] signals interface error: /usr/lib/libQtCore.so.4(?)[(nil)] -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/737261 Title: Totem fails to play anything -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 23810] Re: Evolution is unusable in 1024x768
In my case, on 1024*768 screen resolution, the preferences window is too high, so I cannot see the button at the bottom. Since the preferences window cannot be resized, I can only press tab until I think it is selected and press enter... not at all a good user experience. Just to be clear - is this bug about the preferences window, as the original bug description suggests (although the title is very general and may improve from being changed to being more specific)? -- Evolution is unusable in 1024x768 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/23810 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Just to clarify on my testing process 1. killed only evolution-alarm-notify - evolution still hangs but starts evolution-alarm-notify again 2. killed only bonobo-activation-server - evolution works but starts bonobo-activation-server again Because of that I am not sure, if it is a separate bug I am providing the backtrace for... most others seem to report, that killing evolution- alarm-notify helped them. -- Evolution hang on startup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365461 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 363697] Re: warn user when fonts are not available
I am having the same problem on Ubuntu lucid with documents downloaded from http://jpr.sagepub.com/content/40/2/213.abstract In the properties window, the following fonts are listed: Helvetica Helvetica-Oblique Helvetica-Bold Helvetica-BoldOblique AGaramond-Semibold AGaramond-Regular AGaramond-Italic Courier AGaramond-SemiboldItalic All Type 1 and Not embedded The text is not readable without getting headaches because just as in the example from the bug description, the word-boundaries are not recognizable, the letters shift heavily to left and right seemingly at random... Xpdf for example renders the same file on the same computer in a readable fashion. -- warn user when fonts are not available https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363697 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 461015] [NEW] evince-thumbnailer blocks the system with huge memory-load
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince I am running the Ubuntu Karmic RC with all patches till today applied. When I accessed a folder in nautilus, suddenly the whole system became unresponsive (like mouse only moved about every five seconds), the disk was constantly being accessed (I presume due to the high memory load caching everything it can on disk), the Internet connection was lost, after a few minutes the window-decorations went down partially and then I had to hard reset the notebook (by pressing the power button for 5 seconds). This is the second time this happened in two days and since this is completely stopping any productive work with the system I hope this can be fixed soon (or already is because this is a duplicate :-)). [Bug 461015] Re: evince-thumbnailer blocks the system with huge memory-load
I was able to reproduce it once (but not anymore) while using gksudo nautilus (and I have used this method the last time, this problem ocurred). This time I managed to kill evince-thumbnailer after a few minutes of unresponsive desktop and tried to make a test-case by moving the pdf files to different folders but I cannot reproduce the symptoms anymore, since the files are already thumbnailed and evince-thumbnailer is not even showing a hint of the problem anymore. -- evince-thumbnailer blocks the system with huge memory-load https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461015 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 461015] Re: evince-thumbnailer blocks the system with huge memory-load
I think I have found the one pdf that is actually responsible for choking evince-thumbnailer (regardless wether with gksudo nautilus or normal nautilus - but normal nautilus already had choked once on it and afterwards it seems to know, that it has failed on that file and evince- thumbnailer does not try again - probably one of the entries in the .thumbnails/fails/ folder). The file was created by myself with graphics from Blender but I am quite sure, I made the pdf with inkscape (though I cannot say that for certain, it may also have been GIMP). I hope I can attach such large files (5.x MB) ** Attachment added: Kartenrueckseite - Aktionen.pdf http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34414983/Kartenrueckseite%20-%20Aktionen.pdf -- evince-thumbnailer blocks the system with huge memory-load https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461015 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 440828] [NEW] rhythmbox does ignore play command after queue finished
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox When I clicked in the notification area icon with right click and then in the upcoming menu with left click on 'Play', the menu button changes accordingly and the play button in the rhythmbox main window changes as well. But the music does not start playing and the music-position-bar does not move. Only if I click on 'Play' twice, the music starts with the correct file. This is reproducible everytime, all music files in current queue have finished and I use either the play button in the rhythmbox window or the notification area icon to start playing again. Also double-clicking on another music file does show the same non-playing behaviour. It all seems to be linked to the current queue being finished. Only then I have so far observed this problem of ignoring the play command. So steps to reproduce. 1. Open rhythmbox 2. Select an album, a music file whatever (choose the last one, because this only happens if rhythmbox stops playing on its own [because of end of queue]) 3. If you want it fast, use the search-position-bar to go near the end of the music file 4. press Play-Button (in programm or notification-icon) or double click on another music file or another album or select another album or music file and press the button 5. it does not start playing although the buttons say it has started [don't know if this is important, I only tested this with ogg-files] ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Fri Oct 2 21:01:39 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/rhythmbox Package: rhythmbox 0.12.5-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-11.36-generic SourcePackage: rhythmbox Uname: Linux 2.6.31-11-generic i686 ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- rhythmbox does ignore play command after queue finished https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/440828 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

And to me it also happens more frequently when working on battery, but right now, after resuming from stand-by it shows the dimming problem also when connected to current. this seriously affects workability when not plugged to power. And I also encounte the same problem as Andy Walker, that the brightness OSD seems to hang for up to a minute but the rest of the system works (without changing brightness) - this mostly happens directly after resuming from stand-by. -- Dimming on X41 Thinkpad Broken under 8.10 Intrepid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/301097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
