[Bug 836014] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-09-01 Thread Robbie Williamson
WORKAROUND: I found that this bug only occurs when I boot and login
with my laptop unplugged. If I plug in, logout, and then log back in,
my desktop environment is correct. Suspend/Resume and unplugging (but
not logging out) works thereafter.

SEVERITY QUESTION: I would argue that given this is 100% reproducible
for me (and others judging by the dups), that this bug is at least a
**High**, as it severely impacts the usability of the system.

[Bug 833087] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_closure_invoke()

2011-08-24 Thread Robbie Williamson
After getting this error, my desktop looked like an odd mix of Unity and
KDE...I logged out and logged back in, and things seem to have resolved,
so possibly just a one time upgrade issue. Given this error is reported
a bazillion times and this wasn't a serious issue, I'm closing this bug.

[Bug 725062] [NEW] gnome-power-manager not recognizing power status correctly

2011-02-25 Thread Robbie Williamson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

After latest upgrade, g-p-m no longer knows when I'm plugged in or not,
so it does not change power management configs from A/C to battery...and

[Bug 405544] Re: Kernel does not recognize blank optical media

2010-09-02 Thread Robbie Williamson
mp, I understand the frustration, but this bug is pervasive across
Linux, i.e. affects multiple distros and is not something we can easily
fix. Just do a google search of [sr1] Sense Key : Illegal Request
[current] or [sr1] Add. Sense: Logical block address out of range and
you'll see. It seems that it may even be firmware related, in which
case we can't fix it. Couple of questions:

1) Can you test this with Maverick? I'm asking because I'm running
maverick on my Thinkpad X301 with a USB connected CD/DVD burner and I
don't have this error.

2) Are you using a new, never written to DVD-RW or one that you erased?
I'm asking because that might indicate where we should investigate.

 Well, what can I say?
Right now I've inserted a DVD+R with recorded, by LG DVD recorder, video.
The process has been over perfectly, without any error message.
There's been a message that the disk is empty now and at the same time the
 DVD drive's been opened.
My disk was really empty - Brasero erased my disk. IUt DID it. But...
When I've inserted the same disk (empty now) once again, my system didn't
recognised it as an empty disk, and, when I've tried to write an image on
that disk, Brasero said that there's no approporiate disk (sorry, I don't
know how they say in English 'cos I use Russian Ubuntu).
After that I launched K3B. Without any word, it recognised my erased disk
and wrote onto it an information I wanted (a DVD iso image). And now I
have what I wanted - but not through Gnome (Brasero) but through KDE
(K3B). So i still use KDE for these proposes. It's too sad 'cos I want my
 system to be enterely Gnome-like.
Well, if you want to know, I've updated my system not so long ago.

 Linux kernel 2.6.32-24-generic
 GNOME 2.30.2
 Brasero 2.30.2-0ubuntu1

 Nevertheless, Brasero still doesn't work.
P.S. Sorry for my English, it's not my native language. I'm from Russia.
I'll be glad if I could help you to fix and improve this application. I do
 love open source!

[Bug 405544] Re: Kernel does not recognize blank optical media

2010-08-18 Thread Robbie Williamson
@Ron_,
We closed this particular bug, because it is impossible to debug the issue with
so many comments from so many user with varying hardware
configurations...especially when some post saying they have no problem. We
aren't ignoring the issue (it's quite the opposite), we'd prefer you (and
anyone else with this problem) to open a new bug following Andy's guidance in
comment #92 for _your_ specific issue, so that we can track them all here...but
resolve them faster, by being able to focus on each issue separately. Now we
could get lucky, fix one or two issues, and the others are resolved to, but
there's no way we can know that until we look at each case individuallyas
there could be any number of things causing this bug, from cd drive
manufacturer type, connection type, motherboard, bios, etc.

We're using that tag to track must-fix Beta boot peformance/experience bugs
right now, and while I consider this important...I don't consider must-fix.
Will add the tag back after Beta.

The packages were released via the ubuntu-boot team PPAs and tested without
major issues. The problem was not the packages, the problem was the buildds not
being happy in the middle of moving the packages into the archive. With that
said, a discussion has started on how we can modify update-manager, so that in
the future we can basically stop users from upgrading packages when we know the
archive is foobar'd.

Is this specific to the Display Preferences applet? As I'm using the
latest Jaunty Beta development packages, and I can Alt-Left Mouse move

[Bug 290506] Re: gstreamer-based apps (gstreamer-properties, cheese) doesn't show the v4l2 video output

2008-10-29 Thread Robbie Williamson
Seems that 'cheese' is causing this, as if I unload and load the uvcvideo stack
with:
  $ sudo modprobe -r uvcvideo
  $ sudo modprobe uvcvideo
both ekiga and luvcvideo work. If I start 'cheese', nothing works (except
Skype) until I do another unload/load cycle.

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards

2008-10-29 Thread Robbie Williamson
'gstreamer-properties' also works if 'cheese' is not run, or the
uvcvideo module stack is recycled after 'cheese' is executed. Changing
subject line to narrow the problem down to 'cheese'.
