Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-terminal
When I create or attach to a screen session in gnome-terminal, locally
or over ssh, the window resizes to an 80 character width. Height is not

This is the designed-in behavior, not a bug, so I'm setting importance
to wishlist. Not rejecting it because I don't know a better way to
track the response of users to this change than to track reported bugs.
It works in gtk apps too, presumably, because Gnome has supported this
feature since

I now know why this is happening, at least to me. All my music is on a
remote samba share, mounted under /mnt. AmaroK monitors the directory
for changes using gamin. Gamin expects things under /mnt to be
temporarily mounted, so instead of the MUCH more efficient kernel

Copying files on the command line behaves similarly. The operation is not
complete until well after you've been returned to the command line. I know the
moment it's done by umounting the device and waiting for *that* to complete. I
believe this to be a kernel issue, not a desktop interface
That does seem to be the case - the copy operation considers itself to be
finished once the data has been successfully copied to the filesystem buffer.
We could leave the progress indicator up until a successful 'sync', I suppose.

On closer examination, that was the output of my attempt to remove
gnome-applets, but the tracebacks were the same on installation. Incidentally
