[Bug 381825] [NEW] gnome-terminal resizes to 80 characters width when attaching to a screen session
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal When I create or attach to a screen session in gnome-terminal, locally or over ssh, the window resizes to an 80 character width. Height is not affected. This behavior is new in Jaunty, and there doesn't seem to be a setting that affects it. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-terminal resizes to 80 characters width when attaching to a screen session https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/381825 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 67314] Re: [edgy] Can't show root (/) in gtk file chooser after update to edgy
This is the designed-in behavior, not a bug, so I'm setting importance to wishlist. Not rejecting it because I don't know a better way to track the response of users to this change than to track reported bugs. It works in gtk apps too, presumably, because Gnome has supported this feature since long before KDE implemented it. ** Changed in: kubuntu-default-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist Status: Needs Info = Confirmed -- [edgy] Can't show root (/) in gtk file chooser after update to edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/67314 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 36581] Re: gam_server consumes lots of cpu time
I now know why this is happening, at least to me. All my music is on a remote samba share, mounted under /mnt. AmaroK monitors the directory for changes using gamin. Gamin expects things under /mnt to be temporarily mounted, so instead of the MUCH more efficient kernel dnotify method of watching for updates, it actually polls all the files in the mounted directory every second. In my case, it probably can't even list all the files in one second, so it's constantly working as hard as it can, in userspace, to do its thing. I'm going to request (upstream) a compile-time option to specify the directory or directories to poll without dnotify, so we can package it as /media, where we expect our temporary mounts to be (the gamin author, I think, is a redhat guy, and expects them under /mnt). Changing to needs info because I wonder how many of the rest of you have a similar setup (directories with lots of files under /mnt) that would allow us to close this bug if we get the new compile-time option and a new package for it. ** Changed in: gamin (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Needs Info -- gam_server consumes lots of cpu time https://launchpad.net/bugs/36581 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 30640] Re: displayed progress not correct when copying files to an usb stick
Copying files on the command line behaves similarly. The operation is not complete until well after you've been returned to the command line. I know the moment it's done by umounting the device and waiting for *that* to complete. I believe this to be a kernel issue, not a desktop interface issue. -- displayed progress not correct when copying files to an usb stick https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30640 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 30640] Re: displayed progress not correct when copying files to an usb stick
That does seem to be the case - the copy operation considers itself to be finished once the data has been successfully copied to the filesystem buffer. We could leave the progress indicator up until a successful 'sync', I suppose. -- displayed progress not correct when copying files to an usb stick https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30640 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 24999] repeated printer drivers on HPLIP
Public bug report changed: https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/24999 Comment: I'd prefer to see the ppds consolidated into a single package. Having recently installed an HP driver that required hplip drivers, it's not a very straightforward process to figure out which package I need, and the CUPS web interface also suffers from the problem of separate HP/HP (HPLIP) makes, which confuses administration as well. I recall a similar issue in Windows where the add printer dialog had both HP and Hewlett Packard listed as manufacturers. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
