Forgot to add a screenshot. This is what the default window looks like
on a 1024x600 netbook. I believe it's the same on a 1024x768 monitor as
well.

Seems to be solved. Am now running with full-screen of the larger
monitor in use. I'm not sure what action to take on this to mark it
solved, however, so any advice or pointers would be appreciated.

Under Maverick, I could connect my Acer (AOA150) netbook (1024x600) to a
1024x768 monitor and use gnome-display-properties to turn the netbook
screen off and use the monitor at full resolution. With Natty Alpha 3,
the same procedure
