[Bug 640060] [NEW] Disk Utility Floppy Formatting

2010-09-15 Thread SFS
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

10.04

If you fix the permissions on floppy drive use and then revert to an old
version of Udisks (you have to do all of this to even get floppy access
period), you can them format a floppy in Disk Utility as long as the
disk has an existing recognized format.

In other words, floppy use in 10.04 is broken and must be fixed before
attempting to access a floppy in Nautilus. Once you get access working,
you can use Disk Utility to format floppies (as long as you use Format
Volume instead of Format Disk since it craps out). But, if you have a
floppy that does not have a recognizable format (such as when you erase
a disk with a magnet), Disk Utility cannot successfully format the
floppy.

In other words, someone needs to address floppy use in Ubuntu. It hasn't
worked correctly for several releases. It does not work in 10.10 either.

[Bug 68221] Re: nautilus bug copy from search window....

2007-12-14 Thread SFS
Since there is no warning that the copy was unsuccessful, shouldn't this
be considered a High Priority bug?

I lost a bunch of pictures when I relied on a similar copy operation
that failed w/o warning. This would really suck in the business world if
most of a companies files were lost due to simple copy/paste
functionality.

Can you say Enterprise Ready or even So easy, my Grandma can use
it??? I can hear her cursing already.

[Bug 125179] Re: when vino is running for several hours, performance degrades, making xorg to eat up cpu usage

2007-07-27 Thread SFS
My wife connects to Feisty from Windows XP using VNC.

During the VNC session and after disconnecting, my PC is slow and XORG
CPU utilization is very high. vino-server shows ~4.4MB of memory usage
when she is connected and disconnected and it must be ended to return to
normal operation. After ending vino-server, it's memory goes down to
~940KB.

This does not appear to be caused by entering the wrong password. It
appears to occur every time VNC is used. Using the new utility that
shows others are connected to disconnect, does not lower the CPU or the
vino-server memory size of 4.4MB.

Please give me a detailed explanation of how to trace the issue for you.

[Bug 52452] Nautilus to FreeNAS SMB --- Some files not copied w/o errors

2006-12-14 Thread SFS
Public bug reported:

Some files are skipped when copying large amounts (10-15GB) of pictures
or MP3 Music (around 2-5MB each), stored in several levels of
subdirectories, over the network.

For example, my music was stored in directories with the format of
/Music/Artist/Album/Song format. I had a total of 2600 songs and only
1600 made it to the NAS. No errors were displayed by Nautilus and it all
appeared successful.

The subdirectories are created, but there are no files inside.

In one of the other bug reporting systems, some work was reported as
done on this request.

With so many bugs and bug systems, I can't locate the reference to it
anymore.

[Bug 50685] Re: Gfloppy will not successfully format a completely blank disk

2006-07-13 Thread SFS
How do I triage my own bugs or forward them upstream? It sounds like
something a salmon should know by instinct, but I have no clue.

BTW - This is not minor for anyone formatting a floppy of questionable
origin (which all floppies are).

[Bug 52836] Crash when moving folder to trash

2006-07-12 Thread SFS
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

As another user reported, when you are using the side pane view in
Nautilus to delete a directory or Move to the Trash, it crashes
completely with no option to restart or recover from the error.

Steps to issue:

Create a test directory
Right click it from the Tree view
Select Move to trash
Watch the beautiful Ubuntu Nautilus window disappear

Please comment if you can duplicate this issue...

[Bug 31037] Re: Vino-server takes 90% of cpu when only listening for incoming connections

2006-07-11 Thread SFS
I have a problem where vino server shows no CPU usage, but it must be
killed to prevent high CPU usage by other programs!!!?

I am using up to date Dapper and the problem occurs after my wife logs
in to our home PC from work. When we get home, vino-server must be
killed to prevent high CPU during mouse scrolling of any program.

I need assistance providing info for tracing down the problem so it can
be reported properly.

[Bug 50685] Gfloppy will not successfully format a completely blank disk

2006-06-22 Thread SFS
Public bug reported:

I have found that you cannot format a completely blank disk (one erased
with a magnet) using Gfloppy or fdformat unless you use:

setfdprm -p /dev/fd0 1440/1440 and then format with Gfloppy.

I am surprised that the floppy density selection in Gfloppy doesn't set
these parameters for you.

If I run the setfdprm -p /dev/fd0 1440/1440 command just before
formatting in Gfloppy, everything works fine.

In other words, Linux pukes on a floppy that does not already have a
recognizable file system unless you run setfdprm just before the format.
Gfloppy should set this the floppy parameters based on the density
chosen.
