[Bug 2051383] Re: gnome-shell high CPU utilization when moving a high frequency mouse
To answer your first question: I'm testing on a freshly booted system with no applications running. Regarding extensions: After I disable the Desktop Icons NG extension (appears to be one of the built-ins), peak CPU usage for gnome-shell goes from ~55% to ~35% when moving over an empty desktop. When moving over an application such as gnome-terminal, CPU usage for gnome-shell increases to ~60% both with and without this extension (and also gnome-terminal itself consumes about 25%). Besides that I have Ubuntu Dock and Ubuntu AppIndicators - disabling them didn't affect CPU usage. evtest output attached. ** Attachment added: "evtest.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2051383/+attachment/5749814/+files/evtest.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2051383 Title: gnome-shell high CPU utilization when moving a high frequency mouse To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2051383/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I've noticed that at some point gnome-shell starts consuming twice that amount of CPU resources when moving my mouse over the desktop, reaching nearly 100%, i.e. to the point where the desktop experience is not good. 1. Nope, the log is normal, nothing new is logged when moving the cursor around 2. Razer DeathAdder V2. BTW switching to 60 Hz doesn't seem to change anything. [Bug 2051383] Re: gnome-shell high CPU utilization when moving mouse cursor
I'm sorry, the 20% part was a bit of an overstatement, after observing more I can say it's somewhere between 1% to 5%. I have the following extensions active: - Desktop Icons NG - Ubuntu AppIndicators - Ubuntu Dock Disabling all extensions didn't change anything in my case. Also I've noticed an interesting thing: when moving the cursor, CPU usage goes up for gnome-shell AND for whatever process on top of whose window I"m moving it. For example, if a Text Editor window is active, it goes up for the gedit process. If it helps, below are a few screenshots of "top" taken when I moved my mouse, with Xorg and Wayland for comparison, and a video. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2051383 Title: gnome-shell high CPU utilization when moving mouse cursor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/2051383/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1926398] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't show folder name in Operations dialog
Public bug reported: When I copy a directory from one disk to another, Nautilus won't show its name next to the progress bar. It simply says "Copying N files to diskName". I think it should say something like: "Copying N files in directoryName to diskName". Reason: When you copy 2 big directories with a lot of files to the same destination and want to know which one is which, you can't differentiate between them since the directory name is not shown. If you want to cancel one of them, you also don't know which X button to click. See my attached screenshot. [Bug 1824874] Re: undismissable, unclickable authentication dialog left on screen (top-left corner) after policykit authentication [pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed]
I just tried some experiments with pam_yubico in my distro. Case 1 (OK): - Run `systemctl restart some-service` (for example: `systemctl restart libvirtd`). - Go sleep or lock screen (press Super+L). - Wakeup and login again. ==> There are no any popups. Case 2 (Bug): - Connect Yubikey. - Edit /etc/pam.d configuration files (for example: common-session in Ubuntu or system-auth in other distro) and describe a long-running `auth sufficient ...` module (for example: pam_yubico.so). - Run `systemctl restart some-service` (for example: `systemctl restart libvirtd`), interact with the Yubikey. - Go sleep or lock screen (press Super+L). - Wakeup and login again. ==> An undismissable popup says that authentication is required to restart libvirtd (or any other service). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1824874 Title: undismissable, unclickable authentication dialog left on screen (top- left corner) after policykit authentication [pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1824874/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I suspect that it caused by custom PAM modules which add to authorization process some delays (in my case this module is pam_yubico which waits for user action) but I still do not have a chance to check it.

[Bug 1852844] [NEW] Nautilus/Files UI requires sudo access to unmount a disk that can be unmounted successfully without sudo using command line
Public bug reported: An external disk device is declared in '/etc/fstab' with 'auto, nofail, users' options: UUID=aa083302-...-b66c0715eaf1 /media/ushakov/TOSHIBA_SYSTEM ext4 nodev, nosuid, auto, nofail, users 0 2 It is then successfully mounted automatically upon being connected. It can further be unmounted successfully without `sudo` from command line, e.g.: `umount $mount_point`. Meanwhile an attempt to unmount this device from Nautilus/Files UI results in an "Authentication Required" message: "Authentication is required to unmount External USB3.0 (/dev/sdc3) mounted by another user". The expected Nautilus/Files UI behavior would be that the disk device is unmounted silently or just with an non-intrusive notification upon a click on the "Unmount" button near the device label. Public bug reported: Ubuntu 16.04 fresh install hangs when shutting down. The system is diskless PXE-booted with a couple of nfs mounted directories including homedir. As I have no persistent storage whatsoever, I don't have any logs, but in debug-shell, running journalctl -f I can see that it hangs at [ *] (1 of 2) A stop job running for Raise Network Interfaces (10s / 1min 30s)Jun 20 20:23:05 $hostname kernel: nfs: server $nfs-ip-address not responding, still trying Jun 20 20:23:05 $hostname kernel: nfs: server $nfs-ip-address not responding, still trying Jun 20 20:23:14 $hostname kernel: nfs: server $nfs-ip-address not responding, still trying Jun 20 20:24:08 $hostname kernel: nfs: server $nfs-ip-address not responding, still trying Second job in "(1 of 2)" is thermald, turning it off does not fix the problem. Also, this counter "(10s / 1min 30s)" stops visually updating. server $nfs-ip-address is not responding, because, all network interfaces are already down at this point. I am not exactly sure why this happens. Looks like there is a wrong ordering of shutdown of systemd services, which bring down interfaces before something nfs-related, but I am not sure if that's the reason of hanging.
