[Bug 1760849] Re: Unable to login unless primary display available, not mirrored

2018-04-03 Thread Stuart Bishop
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1723025 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1723025

I don't think this is a dupe of Bug #1723025, which is discussing
behavior when a screen is disabled such as a laptop being closed while
an external monitor is connected. In my case, the laptop screen is not
disabled (the laptop is not designed to operate with the lid closed).
The laptop screen simply cannot be seen when using the external monitor
and keyboard due to its physical positioning.

Ideally, for this bug to be fixed the screens would be mirrored and the
login screen displayed on all screens. Fallback would be to implement
previous release behavior, where the login controls followed the mouse
pointer and would appear on whatever screen the mouse pointer is moved
to.

[Bug 1760849] [NEW] Unable to login unless primary display avaiable, not mirrored

2018-04-03 Thread Stuart Bishop
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu login screen is tiled on all displays, not mirrored, making
it nearly impossible to login when using an external monitor if the
laptop screen is not visible.

There appears to be no available control to alter the display settings
of the login screen. Prior to bionic, the controls followed the mouse
onto different displays so you could login by giving the mouse a swipe
to the right to get the controls to appear.

[Bug 1442649] Re: nautilus trash doesn't include btrfs and zfs subvolumes

2017-02-20 Thread Stuart Bishop
Work around is to use the trash-cli package and empty trash from the
command line.

Upstream fixes in nautilus seems stalled, per
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=604015 , with no comments
from maintainers for the several months that patches have been
available.

[Bug 1238410] Re: Inconsistent cursor visibility with cursor plugin enabled

2013-11-18 Thread Stuart Bishop
Per duped Bug #1237218, the manifestation I see of this is that very
occasionally I log in (not having touched the mouse at all so I'm unsure
if it is working on the greeter screen), and I find that there is no
mouse visible in Unity. It is still active, as I can use the invisible
mouse pointer to click on things. Using keyboard navigation to log out
and then logging in again, the problem is probably gone and the mouse
pointer visible again.

2012-02-27 Thread Stuart Bishop
I'm not affected now because gwibber is not crashing now. I have no idea
if gwibber.log is still being attached to public bug reports when
gwibber crashes.

The private information I refer to in the bug description are account
names. These are still being logged to gwibber.log, which seems fine.
However account names are not suitable for attaching to public bug
reports, at least without asking.

[Bug 669472] Re: Startup fails with System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException

I did have some photos imported into Photos/1.

Workaround:

I've moved these directories out of the way, but f-spot still does not
launch. The bad data is still in the sqlite3 database - Photos.time
contains photos

To fix this:

cd ~/.config/f-spot
cp photos.db photos.db.incaseiwannarecover
sqlite3 photos.db delete from photos where time  0;

[Bug 356702] Re: Tooltips stick when switching desktops (Compiz)

2010-09-28 Thread Stuart Bishop
I've just realized the most common way I trigger this bug. I move my
mouse to the workspace switcher, click, and move my mouse back to my
work area - all *before* the tooltip delay passes. The tooltip will then
pop up despite my mouse being nowhere near. It seems that the event for
the cursor leaving the workspace switcher is lost or ignored during the
transition and the applet still thinks it is inside its region.

[Bug 356702] Re: Tooltips stick when switching desktops (Compiz)

2010-09-27 Thread Stuart Bishop
I can reliably (and constantly) reproduce this under Lucid and current
Maverick.

1) Move the mouse over an icon in a different workspace in the workspace
switcher.
2) Wait for the tool tip to appear.
3) Click
4) Move the mouse outside of the workspace switcher before the transition
effect is complete.

If you have difficulty triggering, install compizconfig-settings-
manager, go to Desktop Wall in the CompizConfig Settings manager, select
the Viewport Switching tab, and increase the Wall Sliding Duration from
the default of 0.3 to 2.0. You should now have plenty of time to trigger
the race condition.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-09-14 Thread Stuart Bishop
I see this sort of effect regularly on boot. The reliable work around
for me is to log out and log in again. All the startup applications are
in cache and the race conditions are not triggered. It seems it happens
when the panel is a little slower than normal loading, and startup
applications and applets are making use of its resources before it is
fully initialized - the slower your disks and the more startup
applications you have the more likely you are to see the problem.

[Bug 545726] [NEW] Startup applications launch before panel and become lost

2010-03-23 Thread Stuart Bishop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

A have a added a few items to System - Preferences - Startup
Applications. One of these is loading very quickly and on a fresh boot
starts up before my panels, so there is no notification area. Its icon
appears in the top left corner of the screen and will shortly be covered
by the panel. Logging out and logging in again things work fine, as the
panel loads much faster with everything in cache.

I've only seen this happen with one of my startup applications
(jungledisk-monitor), so this might be an fault there such as not
blocking until a notification area is available.

[Bug 175191] Re: f-spot changes timestamp in an incorrect way

2009-11-11 Thread Stuart Bishop
I've posted a link to Steve's patch upstream.

I do think that Ubuntu needs to address this (locally or backported from
upstream), or f-spot bumped to universe. Products with data loss bugs
affecting a large number of users that have been open for 6 years don't
really belong in main.

[Bug 311690] Re: Delay between blob submission and blob availability causes Launchpad to OOPS.

2009-01-06 Thread Stuart Bishop
This is almost certainly fallout from database replication. During
normal operation, it will take 30-60 seconds for the information about
the upload to propagate to the replica database. It is quite likely that
when attempting to view this page with a web browser, the replica
database is hit and the information doesn't yet exist.

It may be a simple solution to force the use of the master for this
particular page. This would be a malone fix.

An alternative is to update the publisher so, if a 404 is generated and
the replica database used, the request is retried using the master
database (quite similar to the Retry mechanism used to handle database
deadlocks and serialization exceptions). This would be an infrastructure
fix.

[Bug 13467] Multiple network locations with identical names

2006-07-05 Thread Stuart Bishop
Public bug reported:

You can create a location with an identical name to an existing one. Either this
should not be allowed, or the user warned before overriding the existing
location (The latter would be more useful to avoid situations where you need to
switch locations and reapply changes). Currently you just get multiple locations
with identical names you have no way of telling apart in the GUI.

[Bug 13466] statically configured gateway addresses being lost on location switch

2006-07-05 Thread Stuart Bishop
Public bug reported:

If you have interfaces with statically configured IP addresses, the gateway
addresses are not saved when you save a location. ie. If I switch locations and
switch back again, the default gateways are now all blank.
