[Bug 202805] [NEW] totem xine overwrites /etc/sysctl.cfg
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem-xine While installing totem-xine with sudo apt-get install libdvdread3 libxine1-ffmpeg totem-xine build-essential debhelper fakeroot totem-xine issues following messages: Configuration file `/etc/sysctl.conf' == Modified (by you or by a script) since installation. == Package distributor has shipped an updated version. What would you like to do about it ? Your options are: Y or I : install the package maintainer's version N or O : keep your currently-installed version D : show the differences between the versions Z : background this process to examine the situation The default action is to keep your current version. The default is N which is ok, but it would be better to do changes to sysctl.cfg if they are required in a more elegant way instead of just trying to overwrite systctl.cfg. E.g. via an install script or so that changes sysctl.cfg in a smart way. If I would have chosen Y my oracle parameters in systctl.cfg would have been deleted. ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- totem xine overwrites /etc/sysctl.cfg https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/202805 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 64064] Re: would be nice to add ~/bin to the default PATH
Setting it as default is a bit harsh. Why put ~bin in by default, and not e.g. ~shs. Anyway bug tracker https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pam/+bug/145380 solves the problem in a nice way by allowing users to set it, which makes setting it by default a bit moot: new users won't miss it, advanced user can do a one-time change. -- would be nice to add ~/bin to the default PATH https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/64064 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 187177] Re: Installing totem on kubuntu switches users to gnome desktop
Whether it's a bug or not is a little bit a gray area I think... When I tried to install totem I totally did not expect to switch from KDE to (a partial) gnome. As it is, it's very odd and unexpected behaviour for just installing an application. You do get a huge list of this will be installed as well, but at that time I didn't know installing the rest would switch my desktop. A lot of people would be stuck after installing totem the way it is now. -- Installing totem on kubuntu switches users to gnome desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187177 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
