"systemctl stop irqbalance"?

I have tested this now multiple times by stopping and starting it again
and all looked fine.

Based on the above this might be true. So is it a known issue that
systemd prints wrong things? I think this is an issue that should be
actually fixed before tinkering around on every shutdow delay issue
(also [1] blames that [2] isn't reliable enough so it would eventually
also make sense to wait for [1]'s implementation).

[Bug 1718231] [NEW] Mismatch in type-ahead search of the GTKFileChooser causes the first file to get the focus

2017-09-19 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 17.10 dev with libgtk-3-0 3.22.19-0ubuntu1 and
initially this issue was reported at
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=764668 . If the
GTKFileChooser gets opened and something is typed that causes a mismatch
the first file gets deselected but instead it gets now a focus (which it
hadn't before) which might be a bug.

[Bug 964775] Re: Boot is delayed due to missing static network interface

2017-04-09 Thread Sworddragon
The boot is still delayed even with systemd 232-21ubuntu2 on Ubuntu
17.04 dev if something causes the network not to get up (for example as
it is happening here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1681190 ). Also
the time the job does now wait (as shown) seems to be 5 minutes and 2
seconds which looks a bit crooked to me (I would expect something like 5
minutes then).

[Bug 1681190] [NEW] I/O errors on disc from optical drive can block raising the network

2017-04-09 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 17.04 dev with systemd 232-21ubuntu2 and I'm using an
automounter which does also mount discs in optical drives and on having
a damaged disk (from too much overwriting) in /dev/sr0 inserted I'm
getting I/O errors as expected (blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sr0,
sector 0) but the console shows then "A start job is running for Raise
network interfaces" with a maximum time of 5 minutes and 2 seconds which
doesn't progress until I'm ejecting the disc in /dev/sr0.

[Bug 1640216] [NEW] /etc/systemd/system/ctrl-alt-del.target gets installed/overwritten

2016-11-08 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 17.04 dev with systemd 232-2git1 and I have masked some
jobs to prevent them being started and one of them was ctrl-alt-

[Bug 1624967] [NEW] $TERM is not set for /etc/rc.local

2016-09-18 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.10 dev with systemd 231-6 and after upgrading from
upstart to systemd I'm noticing that a setterm command fails that I have
put into /etc/rc.local in the past (to make specific settings on the
console without requiring a login). On making a look at this I figured
out that $TERM is not set at default anymore and maybe it makes sense to

[Bug 1624965] [NEW] console respawn is sometimes slow and sometimes fast

2016-09-18 Thread Sworddragon

[ OK ] Started Getty on tty1.

[Bug 1623194] [NEW] Permanent I/O from kworker since migrated to systemd

2016-09-13 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.10 dev and after upgrading from upstart to systemd
(231-6) I'm noticing that if the system is on idle (even if only booted
to the login screen) there are permanent I/O activities on my hard disk
drive. On making a look with inotifywait this happens by permanently
accessing files in /home/.ecryptfs/sworddragon/.Private (but no I/O
appears at the transparent mountpoint at /home/sworddragon). On making a

[Bug 1464848] Re: Missing german translation

After updating to language-pack-gnome-de 1:15.10+20150709 (and its
dependencies) this issue is fixed for eog but not for nano. Also I'm
noticing several untranslated parts on the dialogs on package
configuration:

- flashplugin-installer 11.2.202.491ubuntu1 (completely untranslated)
- resolvconf 1.77ubuntu1 (the first dialog is untranslated)
- keyboard-configuration 1.108ubuntu5 (at least the entry Do not configure
keyboard; keep kernel keymap in the first dialog)
- libpam-runtime 1.1.8-3.1ubuntu3 (all selectable entries)
- libpaper1 1.1.24+nmu2ubuntu3 (all selectable entries)

Also on reconfiguring all packages on my system most of stdout/stderr are not
translated (this seems to be a generic issue so I have not listed now a package
for this).

[Bug 1452272] Re: Cut/Copy/Paste/Select All are active while they shouldn't

2015-05-09 Thread Sworddragon
Yes, I was meaning that the menu items are visible while they should
not. But it seems that the case where Select All is visible on empty
input fields is a GTK+ issue but I'm waiting until this gets confirmed
by upstream ( https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=748863 ) as
this would result that several packages could be marked as invalid. Also
I have chosen git-gui but Launchpad assigned it to git.

Edit:

Is this a new problem after upgrading to 15.04?

If I'm not wrong I have seen this issue already before Ubuntu 15.04.

[Bug 1452272] [NEW] Cut/Copy/Paste/Select All are active while they shouldn't

2015-05-06 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I have already created a few upstream reports for this but since nearly
every application on my system (Ubuntu 15.04) is affected by this issue
and I'm getting tired of opening this many upstream reports I'm creating
this collecting ticket.

To the issue: Commonly at least once of this happens if the related
context menu (commonly in the menu bar - Edit or with a right mouse
click on a related field) gets opened:

- Cut/Copy are active while nothing is selected.
- Paste is active while nothing is in the clipboard.
- Select All is active while the related field is empty.

Here are the upstream reports which I have already created:

[Bug 11334]

2015-02-25 Thread Sworddragon
Is there any reason why this ticket is marked as INVALID? Even if this
will still need a while I think we should not stop working on it.

Maybe another possible solution would be to implement this as an optional API
that doesn't require to drop support for legacy applications (at least not in
the near future). Developers can make use of this API for copy/cut/paste in
their applications and old applications will still act in the current way -
either a clipboard manager will take care of this or the clipboard gets lost.

[Bug 994231] Re: Missing icons

2015-02-19 Thread Sworddragon
After rereading this ticket:

the icons are shipped in the default Ubuntu theme

if we were to add a theme depends we would pick the human icon theme,
which is installed by default

If I haven't made a mistake on my test I'm seeing the symbols only in
gnome-icon-theme-full and adwaita-icon-theme-full (isn't
adwaita-icon-theme-full the successor of gnome-icon-theme-full?). Technically
we are in the same situation as this ticket (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxde-icon-theme/+bug/1246448 ) (it
got a regression on this ticket (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/adwaita-icon-theme/+bug/1416693 )
which was solved differently).

[Bug 1216788] Re: #!/usr/bin/python files and similar variants are not shown as executable files

2014-10-14 Thread Sworddragon
 1. are the files executable in the terminal? if so, you should check
the executable flags. this may be obvious, but it's worth looking into.

I think this needs more clarification after this long time. The files
affected by this bug have there gear icon on the file missing (that I
was refering to in the startpost as executable files which wasn't
accurate). They look then just like simple text files.

 2. are they only files that use #!/usr/bin/python? what about python3? what
about #!/usr/bin/env python? for that matter, where does /usr/bin/python
point to? it is a symbolic link after all.

At least Python 2, Python 3 and C files are currently affected by this
bug (but PCManFM is correctly detecting the file types and I got the
hint in the PCManFM tracker that this bug is probably related to an
icon-theme). But I remember to have encountered more file types in the
past.

furthermore, what are the versions of everything are we talking about? what
14.10 image? a release or a daily image? which one? what is the last version
you can say this was working with?

An upgraded Ubuntu 14.10 dev from an older Ubuntu version (the bug
appears on 2 such machines). The package versions are:

sworddragon@ubuntu:~$ installed-packages -o name -s all | awk '{print $5,$6}' |
grep -E 'icon-theme|libfm|pcmanfm|shared-mime-info'

if you double click on the file, does it open like normal?

At least as I expect it.

are there ANY executable files that show the icon?

There are files with and without the execution flag that have this icon.

where's the upstream link to this hint you got?

what version of 14.10? is it an alpha? beta? daily image?

As I said it's an older version of Ubuntu which was just upgraded. The
last apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade was done yesterday.

what versions did this last work with?

I don't remember anymore but mostly I'm reporting a bug shortly after I
have encountered it.

[Bug 1324737] Re: defaults.list is ignored

2014-06-05 Thread Sworddragon
Now I'm also noticing that some types are not associated correctly
anymore. For example /usr/share/applications/defaults.list contains the
entry application/pdf=evince.desktop and
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache contains the entry
application/pdf=gimp.desktop;evince-previewer.desktop;evince.desktop;
(both files are readable by my user) but on a double click on a PDF
document evince is not started and the context menu doesn't even contain
an entry for evince.

[Bug 1324737] [NEW] defaults.list is ignored

2014-05-29 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 dev with libglib2.0-0 2.41.0-1 and pcmanfm
1.2.0-1 and after upgrading libglib2.0-0 from version 2.40.x I'm
noticing that the order in my context menu has changed. Here is a
testcase:

/usr/local/share/applications/defaults.list contains:

[Default Applications]
text/plain=SciTE.desktop;

/usr/local/share/applications/test.desktop contains:

[Desktop Entry]
Exec=true
MimeType=text/plain;
Name=Test
NoDisplay=true
Type=Application

On executing update-desktop-database
/usr/local/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache is created and contains:

[MIME Cache]
text/plain=test.desktop;

With libglib2.0-0 2.40.x SciTE will be at the first position of the context
menu and Test on the second position. After upgrading libglib2.0-0 to version
2.41.0-1 Test will be at the first position of the context menu and SciTE on
the second. It seems defaults.list is ignored or its ordering is not considered
anymore.

[Bug 1260236] Re: Flickering after upgrading libgtk-3-0

The issue got fixed after upgrading to version 3.4.2-1. In SciTE on the

Version 3.4.2 compiled for GTK+ 3.10.8 so maybe the previous compiled
versions were just incompatible.

I have tested this now with SciTE 3.3.7 from Upstream and all is working

[Bug 994231] Re: Missing icons

2013-10-24 Thread Sworddragon
the icons are shipped in the default Ubuntu theme

What is the name of it?

if you change for an incomplete theme you should install the correct
binaries, that's not an Ubuntu bug

The only icon-theme dependency of eog is gnome-icon-theme which doesn't
provide all needed icons. So either this theme is incomplete or the
control file should provide an additional icon-theme as dependency (like
the default Ubuntu theme which you mentioned).

[Bug 994231] Re: Missing icons

2013-10-24 Thread Sworddragon
Its not so difficult as you might think:

1. We need to know if it is indended that gnome-icon-theme doesn't contain all
symbols for eog.
1.1. If yes: Replace the depends gnome-icon-theme with a right one or add
another icon-theme.
1.2. If not: It is a bug in gnome-icon-theme.

[Bug 819842] Re: Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal

2012-09-20 Thread Sworddragon
Are you sure that this is the correct behavior? Some time before I have
opened this ticket it worked like expected: If I have started an
application in the background I could close the terminal without closing
the application. The only explanation would be that another process
become the new parent (maybe init). At least the BadWindow error doesn't
appear anymore. But a workaround is to use nohup which will still keep
the application open.

[Bug 819842] Re: Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal

2012-09-20 Thread Sworddragon
If you want to start an arbitrary program, use the run dialog (ALT-F2)
– this is what it's for.

I have never thought to use this but it is a good idea.

Not init (exit from the desktop session and see that the program in
question is closed).

I don't know it but with nohup the process will be a direct child of
init after closing the terminal. But at least I have now some ways to
solve this problem and with the BadWindow message fixed here is nothing
more to do.

[Bug 819842] Re: Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal

2012-09-20 Thread Sworddragon
If so then do not use nohup for this purpose.

Is there a special reason? For example I'm opening htop to watch the
process list and after this I'm opening a new terminal and executing
nohup scite /dev/null 21 in it:

| /sbin/init
|- x-terminal-emulator -e htop
|-- /bin/bash
|--- scite
| ...

After closing the terminal:

| /sbin/init
|- scite
| ...

Calling scite directly with Alt+F2:

| /sbin/init
|- scite
| ...

So there is no difference for me.

[Bug 1000712] [NEW] ~/.config/gtk-2.0/gtkfilechooser.ini is not created

2012-05-17 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 dev and libgtk2.0-0 2.24.10-0ubuntu6. If I'm
trying to change some settings in the gtk file chooser dialog (for
example GIMP and SciTE) like Show Hidden Files the file
~/.config/gtk-2.0/gtkfilechooser.ini isn't created. I can create the
file manually and write all wanted options in there and they are even
loaded by the gtk file chooser dialog.

[Bug 994231] [NEW] Missing icons

2012-05-03 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 dev with eog 3.4.1-0ubuntu1. The icons for the
symbols Rotate the image 90 degrees to the left and Rotate the image
90 degrees to the right are missing (they are just invisible). All
dependencies are installed but maybe a special icon theme is missing or
it is another bug.

[Bug 901407] [NEW] libglib2.0-0 is breaking some parts

2011-12-07 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 dev and have upgraded libglib2.0-0 to version
2.31.2-0ubuntu1. After a reboot of the system lxdm-binary was using
constantly 100% cpu time of one core. If gksu is started from PCmanFM it
isn't even showing every time. Downgrading libglib2.0-0 to version
2.30.0-0ubuntu4 fixes both problems.

lxpanel is throwing a BadWindow on these steps. Maybe it has something
to do with this.

I have tested this now with lxterminal and gedit but the problem still
exists. I have tried xterm too but the problem appears here too.

The same problem appears in LXTerminal too. Maybe a shared component is
affected by this problem.

[Bug 819842] Re: Commands in the background are terminated after closing the terminal

2011-11-07 Thread Sworddragon
My system was already fully upgraded in the previous post to Ubuntu
12.04 dev. The lxterminal version is 0.1.11-0ubuntu1. I'm starting
LXTerminal over the startmenu from lxpanel, typing git gui in it and
pressing enter. After git gui ist started I'm closing lxterminal by
clicking on the x in the window. LXTerminal and git gui are now closed.

[Bug 781937] [NEW] Missing start menu entry

Public bug reported:

[Bug 781937] Re: Missing start menu entry

2011-05-12 Thread Sworddragon
I figured out that there is an entry in /usr/share/applications but it
is hidden in the start menu with the line OnlyShowIn=GNOME;. I'm using
LXDE and because of this the entry is not visible. I don't know why the
visibility is limited to GNOME because it can even be used in other
desktop environments (for example gnome-terminal is working for me much
better than lxterminal).
