[Bug 1247948] [NEW] setting items should have a fix order

2013-11-04 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

The current system settings icon order is alphabetical.

Problem 1:
Not the most important items are displayed at first in every row. For example
in the 'Hardware' category (English version), 'Bluetooth' is the first item,
but it should be IMHO 'Diesplays'.

Problem 2:
Sorting the icons alphabetical results in having the icons on different places
depending on the language the system currently uses - pretty bad when
supporting other people through the phone...

It would be much better to give the icons a fixed position. This would
improve the system settings user experience, because the important
buttons would be faster accessible.

The issue you are reporting is an upstream one...
I'm sorry, but sending a bug report to GNOME is like sending something to
/dev/null - it's useless (jep, it's pure frustration here).

[Bug 1244696] [NEW] status bar flickers when changing image

2013-10-25 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

What you expected to happen:
The image viewer should not distract the user when watching images. This should
also apply to switching between different images.

What happened instead:
The described effect applies especial to images of the same size, because the
shape of the image doesn't change, the only moving part is the EOG interface.
When switching between images the status bar flickers. The reason is that it
displays for some milliseconds the string 'Opening image file:///home'.

Suggested solution:
Display the 'Opening image' string only if the next image hasn't been loaded
after a certain amount of time (1 second).

[Bug 1093285] [NEW] Brasero – Whole system freezes after displaying 'done'

2012-12-23 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

brasero: 3.4.1
ubuntu: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64-Bit up-to-date

What you expected to happen:
I expect that it is possible to burn easily an ISO to an CD using Ubuntu's
default CD burning program.

What happened instead:
After selection 'Burn image' and choosing an ISO file I started the burn
process by clicking on 'Create Image'. After the progress bar arrived at the
end, the Brasero button in the lower right corner displayed a 'done' label.
Here the trouble begun. The whole system friezed! I couldn't even open a shell
pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 (took some pictures with my mobile of the error messages).
After some time I got a terminal in Unity and tried to execute 'ubuntu-bug
brasero' with no luck. Shutting down the computer wasn't possible neither, the
pc just stopped on the shutdown screen (image attached).

Brasero never really worked for me – but I give it a try from version to
version to see if it works – it never dose (since years).

+ After selection 'Burn image' and choosing an ISO file I started the burn
process by clicking on 'Create Image'. After the progress bar arrived at the
end, Brasero tried to generate an image checksum, this took quite long (2 min)
and was maybe abort by Brasero (didn't saw the progress bar arrive at the end).
Then Brasero displayed a 'done' label on the lower right corner button. Here
the trouble begun.

The system was still broken and displayed after the initial boot screen this
message:
+ “Loading Operating System …
+ DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER”
+
+ To finally being able to start the PC I had to power it off!

Brasero never really worked for me – but I give it a try from version to

[Bug 10905] Re: Keyboard shortcuts, window management - Can't use any global keyboard shortcuts or hotkeys when applet/menu is open

2012-10-09 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
For me the main problem with this bug is when leaving the desk I stop usual the
music by clicking
the pause button in the sound indicator and often press then CTRL + ALT + L (a
matter of
habit) to lock the screen, but it doesn't lock cause of this bug. This is a
security
problem. I have documents on my machine that should not be accessible by
unauthorized
people but from time to time I have to leaf my desk :)

Agree with Carlo, lets just copy the image to '/usr/share/backgrounds-
current' for example. We live in 2012, hard disk space is not that rare.

[Bug 972666] [NEW] long URL - video control not usable

2012-04-03 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

Precise 3D 32-Bit up-to-date

When viewing streams with extremely long URL's totems video control
widgets are not usable – see attached image.

How to reproduce:
· Install FF add-on FlashVideoReplacer
· Remove 'Prefer WebM when availible' to force the add-on to use Totem
· Play any YouTube video, double click the video to get it fullscreen
· Take a look on the video control widget

FlashVideoReplacer Add-on:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashvideoreplacer/

Solution:
Force Totem to use maximal 66% of the bar to display the stream URL.

[Bug 952516] [NEW] man:[command] not working as expected

2012-03-11 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

When opening yelp, clicking in the address bar and typing 'man:ls' the
appropriate man page is not found → No matching help pages found in
“Ubuntu Desktop Guide”.

When pressing CTRL+L and removing 'help:' at the beginning of the line
and then entering 'man:ls' yelp works as expected.

I assume that Yelp hides by default the 'help:' url part as web browsers
do. When entering after startup 'man:ls' it results in help:man:ls' and
an error is shown to the user.

I just created for testing purpose a new user account and opened the
rhythmbox import dialog. The problem is the same as described in the
bug. So if this is a Nautilus bug, should I add Nautilus as affected
project?

[Bug 946544] Re: write metadata should be default

2012-03-05 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
This non-destructive philosophy is a noble approach and how it should
be. But as long as it is not reality I would suggest to go with a more
“real world approach” for some settings. I don't know what its meant
with 'other metadata's in the preference option, but for me tags are
something that should be written to the file immediately – maybe
separate the metadata option into two entries 'write tags' and 'write
titles and other metadata to photo files'. Check the 'write tags' by
default (tags do no harm anyone – as far as I know) and leave the other
entry unchecked as it is right now.

As devs you have kind of a responsibility for the more unknowing users
out there, they don't know about all the details, they just want it to
work. For the tag example, I'm sure that I'm not the only one that has
lost many photo-tagging-hours expecting a different behavior of
Shotwell. I don't blame you for your non-destructive approach, I realy
like what you guys (and girls?) do, but I think that the tag setting
needs to be changed (for Ubuntu).

PS: I've tested the Mac photo app for ~30 min and liked Shotwell much more :)

[Bug 946468] [NEW] settings background image scales not as expected

2012-03-04 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

When setting a smaller image as terminal background the images gets displayed
multiple times to fill the terminal background. This is not what I expect when
adding an image as background.
When adding an image as background the image should be resized to fit exactly
once the screen. Changing the size of the terminal window should resize the
terminal background image too.

Both approaches have there ups and downs (the current and the suggested)
- adding some more options to the preferences dialog → same as the
system settings appearance options for images would be nice: [title,
zoom, center, scale...] + background color.

[Bug 946544] [NEW] write metadata should be default

2012-03-04 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

'Write tags, titles and other metadata to photo files' setting should be
default in Shotwell. Some times ago I tagged all my holiday pictures (it
took me hours to do so) and after an Ubuntu reinstall I was pretty
shocked not to see all my images tagged after copying my files back from
my backup drive. I guess I'm not the only person that had to make this
experience.

Precise Pangolin is about every little detail and this is something that
could (and I'm sure dose) bug a lot of people. So please make write
metadata default as long as there is not a good reason not to do so.

I really love Shotwell, for me it is a nearly perfect image managing tool.
Keep up the good work!

[Bug 945048] [NEW] Can't connect to Samsung Galaxy S 9000

2012-03-02 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid

What you expected to happen:
I expected that when turning the visibility of the mobile and the computer to
'on' I could trouble-free connect the two devices.

What happened instead:
After clicking the '+' button the bluetooth wizard shows a new dialog. I was
able to find the mobile and to complete the wizard as expected - I didn't
select the check box to share internet. At the end the wizard closes and the
focus jumps back to the bluetooth settings, for a second the device 'Galaxy S'
shows the status 'connection on' before switching back to 'connection off'.

The 'Connection' button can't be activated and is gray.
