[Bug 632810] Re: after editing in EOG with Shotwell, the picture in EOG is not actualized
Other ideas (don't know if feasable) to minimize the impact of this bug in 10.10 : - add a Reload button in Maverick's EOG - automatically reload EOG when its editor (Shotwell) is closed. The Edit picture button added by Ubuntu in EOG makes this bug very visible by Ubuntu users. This is not a critical bug, but I believe it is quite important because of its high visibility : everybody who will use the Edit picture button in EOG will be confused and will think the editor is broken. [Bug 632810] Re: [10.10 beta] after editing in EOG with Shotwell, the picture in EOG is not actualized, and neither the thumbnail on the Desktop
Thanks for your answer Sebastien. I remember I already reported the same bugs in Lucid when Lucid's EOG used the Fspot editor : https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=614634 (EOG prevents the Desktop thumbnails to be updated.) https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=614635 (EOG is not updated after the image is edited) IMHO the problem is that EOG developpers don't care much, because this situation is due to the Edit image button which is added by Ubuntu devs. - is that the kind of bugs where Ubuntu's devs should help upstream ones ? I would had set this as more important than Low , as users will think that EOG's editor is not working, and will get confused for sure. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #614634 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=614634 ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #614635 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=614635 -- [10.10 beta] after editing in EOG with Shotwell, the picture in EOG is not actualized, and neither the thumbnail on the Desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/632810 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 633228] [NEW] EOG prevents the Desktop thumbnails to be updated
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: eog Connected, but not duplicate of Bug #548880. - Copy an image on your Desktop (this step is important) - Open it with EOG. Don't close EOG. - Modify it with any image editor (Gimp, Shotwell, ..), save the changes. RESULT : The thumbnail on the Desktop is not updated (the thumbnail disappears as if was being updated, but then returns the same as before). EXPECTED RESULT : the thumbnail on the Desktop is updated accordingly to the changes. - Then close the EOG window (without closing the Fspot window), then save again the modification in your image editor. This time the thumbnail on the Desktop is updated. ** Affects: eog Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: eog (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #614634 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=614634 ** Also affects: eog via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=614634 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- EOG prevents the Desktop thumbnails to be updated https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/633228 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to eog in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 631440] Re: Shotwell Photo Viewer should replace EOG as default viewer
Thank you for your answers. I understand your point, but I just want to remark that : (1) Shotwell Photo Viewer could be default viewer for JPEG/PNG/RAW pictures only, EOG for the rest. (2) IMHO above EOG features (except Trash, Print and Slideshow) are less important than current drawbacks (slow viewing, no fast editing tools, and Bug #632810) (3) advanced users who need those advanced features for JPG/PNG can easily set EOG by default for JPG/PNG as EOG is still installed (for other image extensions). In 10.10 beta, a right-click on a JPEG or PNG proposes to open it with Shotwell Photo Viewer, so current situation is not optimum, but ok to me as user has choice. Let's talk about this again when Trash, Print and Slideshow are implemented in Shotwell viewer (in 11.04 ?) ;) -- Shotwell Photo Viewer should replace EOG as default viewer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/631440 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to desktop-file-utils in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

@charles: thank you for your answer, I understand your point. @Sebastien : thank you for your answer. Is gdu-notification-daemon controled by gnome-disk-utility ? (if not i don't understand your remark..) Currently, gdu-notification-daemon pop-up is only : - displaying information : xxx Mo are remaining on disk - giving tip : you can free some space by deleting files/applications or moving them to another disk. - proposing 1 tool that shows Mo/folder : disk analyser it does not currently warn about consequences. This is the 1st point that should be improved. And that is an easy improvement : just adding text in gdu-notification-daemon's pop-up if the full volume is / : WARNING ! Ubuntu may not work properly (bugs, impossible to start a graphical session ... ) because the volume root file system only has 18Mio of free space left. [More details button]. Please free disk space. [Bug 597540] Re: Setting No sound in Sound Preferences does not disable GNOME Login Sound
Ok, I now understand how the ding and african dums sounds can currently be enabled/disabled (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- media/+question/123085). So I confirm my opinion : the user expects to find all sounds settings in the Sound Preferences, even the ding one. So no need to change the current Login screen , but we should add in the Sound Preferences a link or way to activate/disactivate the ding sound. Technically, this could be integrated in the Sound Preferences (this particular sound would require administrator password to enable/disable it), OR this could also be a button opening the Login screen window (I guess this would be very simple to implement). -- Setting No sound in Sound Preferences does not disable GNOME Login Sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597540 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-media in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 531762] Re: System monitor System tab should show architecture (32/64bit)
the System Monitor should display : - the architecture of the current system - architecture of the hardware (in order for the user to know if the computer can run Ubuntu 64 bits or not) If I don't mistake, uname -a (or uname -m) indicates the current system architecture. The architecture of the hardware is given by lscpu. -- System monitor System tab should show architecture (32/64bit) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-monitor in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 610358] [NEW] Full disk prevents from starting a graphical session (and Ubuntu does not warn)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility How to reproduce : - start long operations filling disk space, for example big downloads or DVD rip, etc.. - Ubuntu (gnome-disk-utility/gdu-notification-daemon) pop ups messages warning that the disk has few space left, and proposes to empty trash. Remark : if the user has left his computer he will not see all these messages. - when disk is full (less than ~10Mo, I did not check exactly), log out your session, or restart your computer Result : it is IMPOSSIBLE to start a graphical session (Gnome, KDE, Lubuntu, Openbox, Gnome backup session...), and there is no explanation about it in GDM. The only one working is the xterm session, which is not understandable by non-technical users. What I propose : - In a short term : warn the user (via gdu-notification-daemon pop-up windows for example) that a full disk prevents from starting a graphical session (or more generally Ubuntu may not work properly if the disk is full or nearly full) - In a medium term : find a way (quotas?) to ensure that the users can always start a graphical session ** Affects: quota Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: quota Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Full disk prevents from starting a graphical session (and Ubuntu does not warn) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/610358 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-disk-utility in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 597540] Re: Setting No sound in Sound Preferences does not disable GNOME Login Sound
Hi Sebastien indeed I was originally talking about both sounds. (that I used to mute by setting my sound volume to mute before shutting down the computer). But after checking : - I don't have any more the music on session start (don't know why - I will check more), even if System = Administration = Login screen 's Play login sound is activated and the GNOME login sound in Startup program is also activated. - the ding sound can be removed from the System = Administration = Login screen By the way, how do you normally activate/desactivate the music on session start ? is the use of GNOME login sound in Startup program redundant with the Play login sound in the Login screen menu ? I understand that the ding sound is an administrator preference, so that it has to require the administrator password. it is logical to find it in the System = Administration = Login screen , but many users will expect to find it (also) in the Sound effects tab of the Sound Preference menu. So I think we should add an option to activate/desactivate it (with password) also from the Sound Preference menu. (this could be simply a button to open the Login screen screen menu, but i think it would be better to have a Play login sound line under the Enable window and button sounds line ) -- Setting No sound in Sound Preferences does not disable GNOME Login Sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/597540 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-media in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
