I can't run gedit with root privilege. This happens every time I add
sudo or gksu before gedit.

I have a very similar issue affect me too.
The notify-osd works fine (volume, network, IM, etc ) except for brightness~
When I am changing the brightness the original gnome notification show up
instead.
I didn't have this problem when I was testing on Karmic Alpha3 and Jaunty.

It seems only runing this command below leads gedit crashes.

KDM was the default logging manager.
System setting Login Mangaer - (then you can see that it
looks like is locked, you can't even try to change anything)
Or maybe it's just a bug in KDE4.3, not Ubuntu itself.
