Public bug reported: The keyboard doesn't work when I return to work on the computer after a few minutes, long enough for the screen to go blank. To reproduce: Don't touch the keyboard nor mouse for a while. After the first 5 minutes, the screensaver kicks in (matrix). On minute 10, the screen goes blank. Wait a few more minutes. Move the mouse or press a key to keep working. Just type something in the window you have already opened you'll notice that the active window does not receive any keyboard input, and you can't even press alt-tab to switch to another window. Of course, i expect the keyboard to work as usual but it does not. [Bug 1274702] [NEW] Hyper-V KVP infrastructure not working properly
Public bug reported: The Hyper-V KVP package is required to display various metadata from a virtual machine. Currently, the package is installed by using the following command: sudo apt-get install hv-kvp-daemon-init However the installed drivers and daemons do not start even after rebooting the VM. One some further investigation it seems that the kernel installed through the Ubuntu 12.10 ISO is different from the kernel for which the package is compiled and that is why the daemons do not start. After upgrading the kernel manually to match the package, the daemons could be started. After talking to Ben it appears that the kernel should have been automatically upgraded once the hv-kvp package was installed and this might be an issue. For Ubuntu 13.10, we saw that we have to use two commands to install the hv-kvp package: apt-get install linux-tools-3.11.0-15-generic apt-get install hv-kvp-daemon-init Furthermore, even after installing the packages, the daemons are not available under /usr/sbin and have to be manually moved there. Can we make the hv-kvp package dependent on the Linux-tools package? Also can be automatically store in the daemons on the correct disk location? Please let us know. I think what OP is saying is something along the lines of the following use case: 1) Joe wants to see a message that was previously said in convo. I am working from behind a proxy and I do not get the weather information for manually added locations, location already present in the list do show weather info. I not able to directly connect to the internet at present so can't tell whether it will work when directly connected. The bug still persists for me. In fact it has worsened after upgrading to jaunty. I usually access the internet from behind a proxy server (in my university). Before 8.04 I could see the weather conditions of both manually added locations and locations which were already in the list. After hardy only locations in the list worked. Now in jaunty none works when I'm working behind a proxy. But it works fine when I'm directly connected to the internet and that too I have only checked for locations in the list (forgot to check for manually added locations ;)). I have the same problem as Kimiko Koopman. I am using ubuntu 8.10 (gnome 2.24) and my location is Chandigarh , India. My location is not available in the list of cities so I enter it manually but I don't get the weather info. But, however, if I set the location to New Delhi, India , which is the closest location available in the list, I can see the weather info. I tried using the above solution by Kimiko Koopman but that shows the weather info of New Delhi. In hardy I could see the weather info of any city (that I entered manually), but that is not the case in 8.10- I am able to see info for only those cities which are listed by default. Got UDF dvds to mount by following ths guide (http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=4999342postcount=10) with the latest hardy kernel (2.6.24-19). Tried this guide with old versions of the kernel but that did not work. There still some of my DVDs that are not mounting (giving out the same error) but most mount without problem.
