[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-05-28 Thread calvin
Sorry for my English, I'm French, this is a google translation of what I
mean.

@ Ads2 (ads2)
The problem is more complicated than that. When we enter our password and we
validate it, we sometimes end up with a purple screen without cancel button
visible, the only possibility is to do "crtl + Alt + F1 then crtl + alt + F2 to
find GDM

launching nautilus as user doesn't show items in the menu bar. i.e File, Edit
all show up, but the dropdown's are empty.
launching nautilus as root show's these items.

Perhaps it has something to do with my user preferences, or user

[Bug 1088008] [NEW] gstreamer 'shout2send' plugin is compiled without webm support

2012-12-08 Thread Calvin Walton
Public bug reported:

The ubuntu precise(12.04) version of the gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
(0.10.31-1ubuntu1) package has a version of the shout2send element that
is compiled with webm support disabled.

The webm support in that element is autodetected at compilation time: it is
enabled if the plugin is built against a version of libshout ≥ 2.3.1
(see
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gst-plugins-good/tree/ext/shout2/gstshout2.c?h=0.10#n74
 )

Since precise already ships libshout 2.3.1 (libshout3_2.3.1-1ubuntu2),
solving this issue should simply require a rebuild of the gstreamer0.10
-plugins-good package.

(You can check by doing 'gst-inspect shout2send', which currently gives the
following output:)

[Bug 360494] Re: when i resume from standby, my password doesn't work, but in the logon screen it works

2010-06-04 Thread Calvin Huang
I've observed this problem as well. On our install of Ubuntu Server
10.04, whenever the system resumes from being idle, we get locked out.
The password for the active account no longer works, and the lockout
screen does not allow us to switch users to shutdown. The only option at
that point (if no one logged into the server via ssh before the lockout)
is to do a hard reboot.

Our solution, which seems unwise but works, is to set the permission for
/etc/shadow to 777. Or you could just configure gnome to not display the
lockout screen on resume. Neither solution is optimal. Someone else
suggested setting /etc/shadow permission to 640, but that does not work.

[Bug 562674] [NEW] nautilus Large file copy timed out

2010-04-13 Thread calvin streeting
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ok..
this took a while to work out...

I am copying large files (over 1gig) across a 100Mb lan from ubuntu to a
Fedora server using smb and i was getting slow file copy times, It would
start of good and then slowly degrade with large pauses in the disk and
network I/O until it would timeout.

So i spent some time testing samba (think server might be a fault),
Until i noticed by chance that if i copyed a test file to a blank
directory it would work fine. so i did another test to replicate the
problem and also break it again..

As far as i can gather nautilus must be trying to generate previews or
something and getting in the way of the file copy. also if i minimize
nautilus the file copy speeds up

I hope this helps and if you need any more info/tests let me know as i
have lots to copy to the server..

The Package is Nautilus 2.28.1 and the both systems are uptodate.

many thanks

calvin

[Bug 325716] Re: Document opens in another program instead of selected one

On a windows pc, send a document created in WordPad to a linux user with

OpenOffice.org instead.

[Bug 123495] Re: OpenOffice.org files do not open over SSH Gnome VFS share

2007-12-01 Thread Calvin Priest
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 41985 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/41985

This bug has been around for a while, and I think it ought to be bumped
up a notch in priority, and here's why...

If it wasn't for this bug, I could recommend mapped gnomevfs-ssh folders
as a simple file-sharing arrangement that would work well for most
people most of the time. Setting up Samba can be complicated,
especially if you want to give write access for specific people to
specific folders, whereas mapping a gnomevfs-ssh connection is an
incredibly simple, secure, and even elegant solution...if only it didn't
crash Openoffice.

Thanks!

[Bug 38955] Re: blank location in database entry causes abort

2006-04-22 Thread Phillip Calvin
I'm using Ubuntu 6.06.

The circumstances were somewhat rare, but yes, a blank location can be written
during normal use. I added a file and Rhythmbox crashed while adding the file,
presumably part-way through, hence the missing location element.

However, since Rhythmbox will not start at all until the database is fixed, I'd
say patch it -- newer users that don't know where to look or what to change
could be very bewildered.

If I can reproduce the situation in which Rhythmbox writes the blank location,
I will open a bug for that.

[Bug 36302] Re: Volume keyboard shortcut fails to increase volume

2006-04-21 Thread Phillip Calvin
angel12: As far as I can tell in GNOME right now, you can't. This is a bug and
may or may not already be filed. GNOME uses some magic from ALSA to determine
which channel is the master channel, so it may also be a bug with your
soundcard driver.

This bug refers to the inability to raise the volume, despite lowering it
working fine and affecting the correct channel.

[Bug 22393] Re: Keyboard shortcuts don't work with Rhythmbox

2006-04-13 Thread Phillip Calvin
The code for the keyboard shortcuts capplet is supposed to warn before a
regular-character (a-z) key is assigned. This is likely an issue when
triggering the shortcut, rather than assigning it.

The output of this command may be useful in debugging this issue:
gconftool -a /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings

[Bug 38955] blank location in database entry causes abort

2006-04-09 Thread Phillip Calvin
Public bug reported:

Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Steps to reproduce:
1. Modify an entry (or create one) in your rhythmdb.xml library file
(specifically ~/.gnome2/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml) so it has a blank location
tag.
For example:
 entry type=song
titleTitle/title
genreRock/genre
artistSo and So/artist
albumBest of So and So/album
duration181/duration
file-size2898513/file-size
location/location
mountpointfile:mountpoint
mtime1139182965/mtime
first-seen1143761201/first-seen
last-seen1144632181/last-seen
rating2.50/rating
play-count1/play-count
last-played1144199177/last-played
bitrate128/bitrate
date731947/date
mimetypeapplication/x-id3/mimetype
  /entry
2. Start Rhythmbox.

Result: Abort and crash.
Expected result: Skip file and continue.

Output from rhythmbox --debug:
[loading library business]
[0x10102cd8] [queue_stat_uri] rhythmdb.c:1789 (23:05:00): queueing stat for

RhythmDB-ERROR **: file rhythmdb.c: line 1790 (queue_stat_uri):
assertion failed: (uri *uri)
