I'm having this problem as well. Just to reiterate and clarify through
all the noise posts, the problem is that gnome-screensaver runs but does
not activate at the configured idle time on Xubuntu Karmic. It worked
fine on Jaunty.

queries, instead of sticking with the traditional method. The xfce

I see that /etc/gdm/Xsession does run the scripts in
/etc/X11/Xession.d/, one of which probably sourced $HOME/.xsessionrc at
some time in the past. However, that script currently sources
$USERXSESSIONRC, which is not set by gdm's scripts. (It gets set in
Lars, gnome-keyring-daemon does not set SSH_AUTH_SOCK directly. To get
it to work, these things have to happen:
1. Run gnome-keyring-daemon --login
This starts the daemon, and is happening automatically on my xubuntu
installation.
2. Run gnome-keyring-daemon --start
This loads your ssh keys

This glitch happens almost every time.
A similar audio dropout followed by loss of a/v sync happens with
another (similar) video clip, but in its case, the dropout and sync
shift are less than half a second, and no warning message is printed.

I believe the fix for this bug broke standard functionality now. After
his proposed (Step 1), you do activity and LEAVE the windows you just
created opened, when you click the show desktop button again it should
actually show the desktop, not restore all the previously hidden
windows.

If I hibernate using the power manager applet in the notification tray
(next to the task bar clock), I am prompted for my password when I
resume. If I hibernate using the usual Quit / Log Out menu, the
password prompt is bypassed when I resume.
Xfce desktop.

I'm having the same problem, also on fully updated Ubuntu Feisty. Here

It would be an improvement if there was some sort of hysteresis for palm
connects. If connection status varies rapidly (5-10 times in less then
a second), it would be good if only one window popped up. Is it
possible to introduce a good delay?
