For anyone with supported (i.e. AMD) graphics who's not getting the option to
use Wayland (in my case on Pop!_OS 22.04 upgraded from 21.04), this is how I
got it working:
1. Edit /etc/gdm3/custom.conf and under [daemon] change WaylandEnable=false to
WaylandEnable=true
2. Rename
Pretty curious why this bug isn't mentioned on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FocalFossa/ReleaseNotes#Desktop ?
Since this is a real show stopper for anyone using Ubuntu Desktop seriously AND
the issue was reported months before the release of 20.04, it should at the
very least have been clearly

Alan,
I ejected (allthough it's called 'safely unmount' in Kubuntu Feisty) an
external USB harddrive with an ext3 filesystem. It worked exactly as expected:
-The drive spun down and stopped
-The icon
Perhaps irrelevant (allthough not to the end user) but I noticed Kubuntu
7.04 doesn't have this problem, which would confirm it's a nautilus-only
issue.
And I completely agree with Alexandre - this is very bad publicity for
Ubuntu.

Have you tried installing codecs from the Medibuntu archive
(www.medibuntu.org)? Perhaps that helps...

Well... this file plays perfectly here in both Mplayer and Totem. I must admit
I have a slightly more powerfull configuration (AMD64 3200+, 1GB ram, Geforce

looks blocky when displayed fullscreen, but I suppose that's
The URL you mentioned plays fine (although it's interlaced and totem
refuses to de-interlace) on my setup (Ubuntu Feisty, totem)... Please
provide more info on your setup, which Ubuntu version are you runnining,
for example?

I've experienced this behavior many times before. Also, watch what
happens if an application (especially games in wine) messes with the
screen resolution - the order of panel items becomes a total mess.
Confirmed.

I totally agree on this one. Integrating an Ubuntu desktop in an
existing Windows networking environment is simply painfull at the moment
and seriously slows Ubuntu adoption in a Windows-dominated world. And by
that, it's slowing progress on fixing bug #1. Confirmed.
** Changed in: gnome-vfs2
I've experienced similar errors when connecting to the exchange 2003
server at work. Especially when trying to browse the contacts stored in
the Exchange database (this worked a lot better in Edgy!). Confirmed.

This could be anything... badly encoded video files, poor hardware
support, codec problems... Please provide more info (system specs /
videocard + used driver) and perhaps upload a _small_ sample of the
problematic file or put it on a public server where we can download it
to check for ourselves.

I haven't tried it yet, can somebody please confirm?

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager
On a Dell Dimension 5000 with Intel ICH6 onboard audio, the 'Master'
fader is mapped to the headphone output on the front of the system,
while the 'Master Surround' fader is mapped to the line-out output on
the rear of the system.
I'm not with the system right now, but it's a default Edgy install. So
that should mean it's ALSA, right?
