Just a few things opened (firefox and shell) started lagging a lot and
then the laptop completely froze. I had to force the shutdown and the
fans still sound too loud even when only firefox is opened.

My laptop model is a Compact Presario R3454.
I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 8.04 LTS to 10.04 LTS. Now power manager icon

can't log into
Same problem here! I updated Dapper and now I'm having problems with HAL
initialization. Now I can't access my smb shares and things like that. It's not
a problem with one removable device, it's a problem with the whole hal daemon,
wich at first fails to initialize and then initializes but
on Linux Ubuntu.
