I confirm manuellopezibanez's stagement: On my Fedora 21 system, journald is used and there is no .xsession-errors file, like those I still found on other Ubuntu machines around the house. I'm just wondering if there are still legacy apps (or apps not so well integrated with gdm/kdm/dbus), that may try to drop output in a .xsession-errors file... [Bug 356022] Re: unable to mount or browse samba networks
Like mentioned earlier, it seems that the failed to retrieve shares list from server problem may me related to the lack of samba package on an out of the box Ubuntu installation. [Bug 356022] Re: unable to mount or browse samba networks
I'm on Precise 12.04 and was somewhat experiencing the same issue, i.e getting the failed to retrieve shares list from server when trying to reach SAMBA shares on my NAS (WD MyBook World Edition). I've read and try a lot of things on this issue (among others, rearranging the order of the name resolve string in smb.conf), but nothing worked. Even the smbtree command was unsuccessful, as it was not retrieving any shares list. But, I was able to connect to a share by issuing the nautilus smb:// command. A the end of the day, the only thing that solved all this was to install the samba package, which was not installed by default. Since then, retrieving and connecting SAMBA shares through Nautilus work without a glitch. Shouldn't the SAMBA package be installed by default then? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/356022 Title: unable to mount or browse samba networks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/356022/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 356022] Re: unable to mount or browse samba networks
Thanks Michael for your input. As my own problem is already fixed, my question was in relation with the purpose of this bug report, i.e. to fix things for the future and for other users. So here's my proposition: if we want users to have a no-fuss experience when trying to access SAMBA shares (as everyone knows, SAMBA is quite common on various NAS, etc.) that may mean that the samba package should be installed by default (so, available on installation media, or at least, be installed upon first update). From my experience, that doesn't seem to be the case right now. [Bug 708382] Re: cannot create custom preferred applications
Now on Natty Beta 1 (freshly updated), the problem appears not only related to browser/mail apps, but also to multimedia player, since Banshee is not registered as one available multimedia app. (while it's now the default music player!), but instead as a personalized selection... See screenshot 1 attached, This lead to another problem, as the Totem icon/app. appears as the application to launch to listen to music in the Ubuntu-Upper-right menu, instead of Banshee. See screenshot 2 attached in the following post. So my take on this is that this report should not be treated as a wish, but as a bug. There's a problem (lack of coherence, attention, etc.) somewhere with 1) how default applications registered themselves in the Gnome/Unity framework; and 2) How the user can change this selection. This may be related to some Avahi mt-daapd problem - see this report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mt- daapd/+bug/343069 ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Jaunty - Rhythmbox doesn't show DAAP share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363768 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 312459] Re: Intrepid: can't remove/move to trash files on removable media (UMS/USB digital audio player)
I did run rhythmbox --debug , but found nothing in the terminal output that I can understand to be relevant for this bug... ...and, shame on me, I just don't know where to find the debug log file or to redirect the terminal outputl to a file... I've googled for this, but didn't find anything useful. If someone can tell me how to create/locate the debug log file, I'll try it again and come back with the log file... BTW, it could be an upstream bug, but before taking this for granted, I think we should investigate to know if it's not related to the way Ubuntu handles media access, permissions, etc. Again, this bug has just appear after an upgrade to Intrepid (on my 2 laptops)... -- Intrepid: can't remove/move to trash files on removable media (UMS/USB digital audio player) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312459 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

i don't know how to understand the previous statement but in my case, on Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid), drag and drop of events doesn't work in Evolution... and I miss this feature that is available on Sunbird (Lightning/Thunderbrid) on my Windows machine at work... -- Cannot drag and drop an event from date a to b https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181947 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 312459] [NEW] Intrepid: can't remove/move to trash files on removable media (UMS/USB digital audio player)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Using 2 UMS digital audio players (DAP - Iaudio 7 Samsung YP-S3) with 2 different laptops, with Rhythmbox, versions 0.11.6 (on Intrepid) and 0.11.5 (on Hardy), here's what I'm experiencing: The 2 DAP shows up correctly in Rhythmbox and I can move files on them with both system. The problem is that with Rhythmbox on the Intrepid laptop, the options remove and move to trash (my translation from French) are greyed out in the contextual menu related to a file on a DAP. So basically, with the Intrepid laptop, I can't delete files on the DAP using Rhythmbox, while I can with Nautilus (or any other file manager or the command line). I'm not experiencing this problem with the Hardy laptop, ** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Intrepid: can't remove/move to trash files on removable media (UMS/USB digital audio player) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/312459 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 188639] Re: laptop will not sleep after idle time
I've found that idle time for suspending set in gnome-power-manager (GPM) is respected in my case if I don't close the laptop cover (lid). [Bug 188639] Re: laptop will not sleep after idle time
I'm on a Compaq Presario V2610CA laptop with Ubuntu Hardy (Beta) and I'm experiencing the same problem, i.e. idle time is not respected for suspend/hibernate. The problem was also ocuring with Gutsy. I've looked in /apps/gnome-power-manager/actions/ and everything was right, i.e. set to suspend, as I set it in the gnome-power-manager applet. One interesting thing to note is that when I was using Kubuntu Gutsy (some weeks ago - I'm a switcher!) things were working right, i.e. idle time set for suspend in the KDE power manager utility was respected. So it could be a Gnome problem... -- laptop will not sleep after idle time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/188639 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
