As far as I could tell this wasn't fixed in Gutsy official release
(using KDE). The strange thing was that on initial login, there were no
problems, but a re-login caused the (quick-loading?) windows like wallet
manager to stack under the desktop. I also observed strange behaveour
for viewport 1: it didn't accept the middle-mouse button for cube
rotation, as configured (and also middle mouse button scrolling didn't
rotate the cube, as configured). Instead of cube rotation, I got a list
of open windows for this desktop. Choosing one brought the windows in
front and the kicker as well. Clicking on the window titlebar made it
disappear like reported before.

This was all resolved by compiling and installing compiz 0.6.2 and
compiz-fusion 0.6.0.
