The transparency issue is gone from empathy in oneiric (tooltips are
100% opaque now, no inconsistency with the borders). The fact that
tooltips are black remains true, but that is of course a subjective
matter of aesthetics; objectively, I would ask for configurability of
the tooltip colour. In

that no networking experts should be looking into this because it is
definitely unrelated to networking.
Even the connections you suggest, which are valid hypotheses, are
obviously only circumstantially related to networking.

checked by going to Edit Personal Information, selecting a display
picture for the MSN account, closing the dialogue and opening Edit

Ok, it is a profile issue. The new Ambience profile prevents the feature
from working. Selecting the Legacy profile (or Default, depending on
whether the ambience theme was installed before or after opening gnome-
terminal for the first time) makes it work. However I don't see any
gconf key under

The problem is that the Ambience profile does not have a Boolean
/apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/Ambiance/alternate_screen_scroll
key. It just needs one in the default settings. This is the only missing key
compared with the Legacy profile.

Is it a problem with GTK+ or ia32-libs?
The big picture here is that GTK+ changed the way it does certain
things, intentionally and as an improvement. What should happen then is
that every piece of software that relies on GTK+ would be updated to
cope with/take advantage of the new stuff. And so
I have seen facebook contacts coming online, their notification
displaying no picture (while it is being downloaded, I assume), and
after a delay displaying the picture for a different contact. This is
similar to the case described in the summary for contact logouts, but
for contact logins
I think no-one has reported a lucid status yet. I can confirm that this
bug is still present in lucid as of this posting.

It happens with the -generic kernel too, but if you haven't modified
/etc/security/limits.conf your regular user account won't be allowed to
chrt anything. Try sudo chrt 50 totem to reproduce the problem without

Also, I've found out that this happens with many other GTK applications,
presumably those which are threaded (nautilus, rhythmbox, totem, etc),
and non-threaded ones (gcacl-tool, same-gnome, gnome-terminal, etc) are
not affected.

present gsd-xrandr.svg soft-links to display-capplet.svg, which soft-
links to gnome-display-properties.svg, the latter being an actual file
with the colourful icon. gsd-xrandr.svg should stop being a symlink.

I fail to see why the icons should be different at different sizes.
They indeed are; I've tried resizing my top panel, and at 23 pixels the
gnome-display-properties icon is monochrome [!] (this is with
0.4.1ubuntu2), at 24 and above it's coloured, and at 32 and above it's
the gnome-power-manager

The bug can be easily reproduced by following these steps:
1. Start with default settings, and with at least one icon on the desktop.
2. Click and drag a desktop icon.

A new problem, which I think is related to the fix: if I try to change
the icon of the launcher, the icon won't change. E.g., if I try to set
JAMin's icon to the correct pixmap (which BTW is not done by default),
the following appears in jamin.desktop:

I've just done a fresh installation of Jaunty Alpha 4. When I attempt to
change the name of an application launcher on the desktop, the change is
ignored and the old name remains. This happens both if I hit F2 and edit
the name directly or if I

Side note: pressing F5 or Ctrl-R (refresh) makes the scrollbar
(re)appear on the currently open tab. Nautilus still knows how to render
directory contents afresh.

Silly me. The difference was that I had the intrepid-proposed repository
on my computes but not on the other three. One of the updates in there
fixes it, then, although I'm not sure which (gstreamer maybe?).
