Rhythmbox-metadata still uses 100% cpu when files are changing
continuously, but it seems to close down fine in 10.10.
Maybe there should be some kind of back-off mechanism? I remember
similar bugs filed with the nautilus thumbnailer some time ago. Not
sure how or even if those were resolved.
Also tried with the ATI proprietary video driver, no luck.

So, to sum up Kevin's post above (comment 42), the fix for this bug is
for Ubuntu to apply the following two patches to their version of X:

I feel this is a bug. Previewing video files slows my systems down

No, I don't play any 3D games in Wine. I have noticed problems in
F-Spot photo manager with desktop effects enabled, namely that slideshow
transitions are shaky, and changing panel items (such as clock) show
through as a white square when they change. Maybe I should file under
desktop effects?
There is no program crash. This is a problem of using 100% cpu while

The bug only occurs with visual effects turned on (either normal or

fails to reproduce the bug, perhaps there's some conflict with my
particular 3d drivers. However, chess is the only program I've noticed

A little more investigation shows that it uses 100% cpu whenever I start
a new game using the new game command. The only way it uses a
reasonable amount of cpu is when I have ended a game on the previous

I should clarify that when I say above that I start two new games in a

gnome-gnuchess processes churning away at the cpu, even though I'm only
playing one game (only one chess window is open).
