Only after ~$ sudo mkfs -t vfat /dev/sdb1 usb-creator accepted to proceed. Thanks phedon, the above worked for me after experiencing this bug on Ubuntu 9.10 -- Fails repeatably with DBus error org.gtk.Private.RemoteVolumeMonitor.NotFound: The given volume was not found
