Hi Alberts, thank you for your help, I deleted the 2 .desktop files and now I
can use Alacarte to edit my menus.
I don't know why they was there, I never manipulated them. Upgrading may be

[Bug 296867] Re: empathy needs to support OTR encryption

2011-02-23 Thread Syd Smurf
I just wanted to mention that this is a critical bug for people who
lives in autocratic regimes like Iran whose Internet activities is
constantly under supervision. Specially now that people are using
virtual medias to organize their event. Several people has been
arrested in Iran during past year because their unencrypted emails was
intercepted by the authority. I don't think there's an issue more
critical than decreasing the number of prisoners of conscience.

[Bug 696505] Re: Problem with reverse list order in Nautilus

2011-01-04 Thread smurf
What I can say is that I can change the order to old and new folders,
previously changed and never changed. I tried it several times.

As well in my previous post I said that me too could not reproduce
escatly the problem, on another computer, but I found another problem
that can be related to another bug and I reported the bug number.

It's obvious that there is something bad, bu I can't say much more, as
I'm not a programmer.

[Bug 696505] [NEW] Problem with reverse list order in Nautilus

2011-01-02 Thread smurf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm a bit curious, so when I find a function I try it.
Now, in gconf editor I found the option that changes the list order in Nautilus
windows, I tried it but I didn't like it, so I switched back to normal list
order.
FIne, no problem, but... now when a program opens a window to select a file to
open, the window is in reverse order and I can't understand how to reset it to
normal order.
In the screenshot attached you can see on the left a Nautilus browser of /bin
folder and, on the right, the same folder in the browse window of gedit.

[Bug 696505] Re: Problem with reverse list order in Nautilus

2011-01-02 Thread smurf
what you have done is not correct. you don't need to create new documents.
I've modified the gconf key like you made, after that:
- I opened a Nautlus window in list mode and the files were ordered in reverse
sort order.
- that was not ok for me, I closed the window and restored the gconf key
- I reopened the same window and the list was back to normal sort order
- after a bit of time casually I opened gedit and looking for a file to edit I
noticed that the browser window was in reverse sort order, I checked other
Nautilus window but they were ok, but all the other browser window, in all the
programs that allow to surf the file system, were in reverse sort order.

What you say about new and old folders is not correct, the gconf option
apply to old folders as well.

Trying to reproduce the bug on my laptop I was not able to obtain
exactly the same behaviour, there the gedit browser window maintain the
normal order, but the bin folder I was using to check the changes has
been changed in reverse order and now is not restored to the normal
order.

that smell like a brother of another bug in nautilus windows I reported
before, bug # 435343

[Bug 446264] Re: nautilus on Karmic doesn't open the scripts with a double click

2010-02-09 Thread smurf
I found the trick.
I opened the properties of a script and in the Open with dialog I found that
it was set to the last item in the list, in some others script no one item was
set. Just to try, I set Open With Gedit in a script, now all my bash scripts
are opened automatically.
That is weird, because at a first time there was no need to set that.
Anyway the problem is solved.

[Bug 388904] Re: Nautilus 'Computer' displays redundant labels

2009-11-12 Thread smurf
when I open the Computer window I find this
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/8625/computerwindow.png
In spanish Disco duro means Hard Disk.

Actually I don't like a lot that description because (for me) it makes
hard to localize quickly the partition I'm looking for, so I wish to
know if is possible to have only the partition label in the legend, as
it was up to jaunty.

[Bug 480663] [NEW] karmic, icons legend in computer window

2009-11-11 Thread smurf
Public bug reported:

When I open the Computer window on karmic I find all the HDD or partitions
that are detected.
Below each icon there is a legend that reports the global disk space of the HDD
where the partition resides and the label of the partitions.
Like this http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/8625/computerwindow.png
In spanish Disco duro means Hard Disk.

Actually I don't like a lot that description because (for me) it makes
hard to localize quickly the partition I'm looking for, so I wish to

More exactly the behavior is:

If the string is #/bin/bash (no ! ) the script is still executable from
a terminal or even from the Run button in Nautilus, but if I press the
show button Gedit is not opened, but neither the script is executed.

If the string is #bin/bash (no !/ ) when I press the Show button the
script is opened in Gedit as a text file.

if I put various # (i.e.: !/bin/bash) or spaces (i.e.: #
!/bin/bash) when I press the Show button the sript is executed

[Bug 446264] Re: nautilus on Karmic doesn't open the scripts with a double click

2009-10-15 Thread smurf
Yes Pedro, I understand that is not reproducible, as Sebastian said before
probably is due to some local settings and I definitively don't know which set
is responsible for this.
The only I know is that is not the language settings, because I had the same
issue two years ago on Feisty and Gutsy when I was in Italy and my desktop was
set to Italian. Now I'm in Peru and my desktop (a new one) is setted to
Spanish, but on Jaunty I had not this issue, just in Karmic I got it.
Even I can say that after the installation of Karmic (fresh installation) there
was not this problem, it appears later, but unfortunately I can't relate this
with some setting or update.
I don't know what to do, if there is a way to trace what happens when Nautilus
launch the script instead of opening it whit Gedit, I'll try to do it.

[Bug 435343] [NEW] icon compact view doesn't reset in nautilus 2.28

2009-09-23 Thread smurf
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

system is karmic alpha 6 amd64, nautilus 2.28.

if I choose the icons compact view (or distribution.. I don't know which is the
correct translation to english), from preferences menu, in a Nautilus window,
the icons are moved to tight positions in the window. But when I deselect the
option in the preferences window, the icons are not replaced in the original
position.
Even I can't move the icons manually.
Other windows that where not opened when I selected the icons compact view are
not affected from this.

Home window and System window are never affected from the normal/compact
view, and actually they show bigger icons than the other windows.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 400820] Re: gnome-volume-control-applet takes up to 40% cpu

2009-09-23 Thread smurf
for the peoples that removed Pulseaudio because skype.
the skype team has released a new beta of skype that is fully integrated with
Pulseaudio. With the new beta of skype the controls of volume and device to use
are totally in charge of Pulse and the cpu is not stressed when making a call.
So there are no more reasons to remove Pulseaudio.

[Bug 59832] Re: gdm crashes closing a window

2006-09-13 Thread smurf
Hi!
I don' t know if what I'm reporting now is related with the above, baut in the
last 3-4 days something new has appeared.
While working on desktop, or not doesn't matter, sometimes the desktop close
the session by itself and return back to grafic login window.
I attached the user.log, system.log and messages logos with 1309 in the name
that means that they are related with this now.

[Bug 59832] Re: gdm crashes closing a window

2006-09-11 Thread smurf
When the desktop freeze, I can' t do anything from the keyboard, the desktop
remain with the closing window grey,
the mouse can move but click has no effect and the only way to continue working
is to reset the system with the reset switch. So I call crash the fact that is
definitevely impossible to continue working with the system, may be is not a
proper definition, I'm sorry. Once I tried to let it works for a while: maybe
it can resolve the problem himself I tought, but the result was a 10 GB
:0.log.x and system fault because the partition (20 GB) was full.
In /var/log/syslog, in /var/log/messages and in /var/log/user.log I found the
lines that you can read in the attachment of this topic named user.log (the
same lines in the two files), they appear a few seconds after the crash time so
I suppose they are related, no other messages appears.
Cheers
Luca

P.s.: I hope u can read my poor english, I'm italian. Sorry ;-)

[Bug 59832] gdm crash when closing a window

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1159 2006-09-10 12:18 :0.log.4

the content of the biggest one (:0.log.1 in this case) is only the
follow line:

Freeing resource id=40A017E6 which isn't there.

As well I found another log always with the same time in system log,
like this:

Sep 10 22:22:29 localhost gconfd (luca-4430): The address
xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory has been changed to a read only
configuration source in position0

Sep 10 22:22:29 localhost gconfd (luca-4430): The address

(I translated this from italian, so maybe instead of changed it should
sound better resolved but I'm unsure... sorry for that)

But I don't know if there is any relationship between the two events.

I hope to find a solution for this because it make the system very
unstable.

Thanks a lot.
