After each fresh install I have to adjust manually the cdroms entry to match my
hardware.
The current drive is an IDE MultiNorm Burner from LG, I didn't check that with
SATA drives as I don't own one atm.
What further information do you need?
How can I get the exact name my cd/dvd-drive has?
I did not get this bug in a while, I think for more than one month it
didn't turn up... maybe it got fixed?? Need someone to confirm..

A coldstart means that it did not have any previous power supply (PC is cold).
Will attach x-session errors log later. Is there anything else I can do?

It seems to happen randomly, somtimes it works just fine sometimes it does not.
Since I updated 2.22.1 (which is 5minutes ago) I did not get this error again,
but I only rebooted once since then, and it usually happens only on
boot/xserver restart as far as I can say.
Will not post any info
I was using gnome 2.21.xx and I have current no PC to test it with 2.22.xx

It happens when right-clicking on the desktop and selecting *change desktop
