I just encountered this problem using gedit and the gedit gmate repo. I
also had this problem with the autocomplete plugin. Buggy plugins seem
to cause this for me. Gedit on its own is not a problem.

Locate Pointer in Mouse Preferences causes media and mute keys to stop
functioning
I just wanted to confirm this as well with M1330 media keys not working
when locate pointer is selected. I marked my own bug as a duplicate once
I found this. I am using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty.
