This is a problem caused by the interaction of xulrunner and Gnome VFS. Using the test files in Savvas' thread in the forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5369513) a *successful* handling of the PDF file looks like this: nsMIMEInfoUnix::GetHasDefaultHandler() Using vfs return NS_OK
