I get the same thing, 90% of the time when I close Evolution it crashes
gnome-panel. Seems to happen more consistently when Evo has been
running for a long time (so lots of mail notifications). Not using
IMAP, just the exchange connector.

This happens to me about 75% of the time when I close evolution (either via
File-Exit or hitting the close 'X').
The difference between the link in comment 4 is that I am connecting over the
exchange/outlook web access method and not IMAP.

i just upgraded to the new version 2.20.0.1-0ubuntu5 (gutsy) and the panel
does not showed automatically. i have to do clic on its place or open any
app.
but if y remove the panel.d inside .gnome2 the panel is opened in normal
way.

Just happened to me too. When I came back to my machine after leaving
it locked, I had this crash dialog on the screen. Also, workrave had
popped out of the panel into it's little window mode. I don't know if
that's related.
