Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue
for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 9.04? Thanks in
advance.

I'm still running ubuntu 8.04 but actually don't have reproduced the bug
since I bought this new PC.
Thank you.

I 've set the property as you said, but still same behavior when playing the
video in totem or using the gst-launch playbin command.
I noticed a strange behavior though, when totem is running, gst-launch works
fine.

reassigning to gstreamer for now, could be a video driver issue, weird
that the x11 videosink doesn't work though

I'm sorry I can't figure out what to do to get information about my videocard

I tried the following command:
gst-launch filesrc location=myvideo.mpg

The xorg configuration file is /etc/X11/xorg.conf, can you attach it to
the bug? Could you try to use playbin with gst-launch as described
before?

I'm sorry, I never heard about compiz. But if I check with synaptic manager, it
happens that the following paquets installed:
compiz, compiz-core, compiz-gnome, compiz-gtk, compiz-plugins.
should I try to uninstall these paquets ?
Also I have some new information about this bug. I have installed
Compiz is activated when you use the desktop effects option. Can you try
reading the video using gst-launch-0.10 playbin
uri=file:///path/to/video? Does it work correctly? Is there anything
printed on the command line? Does the problem happens with any mpg1
video? Could you attach an example to
I've tried out the command line. Same behavior. It only works if gxine is
running. Many things are printed on the command line but no error or warning
message.
It happens to all the mpg1 videos I produced myself using adobe premiere. here
is a sample video.
