I had the same issue (Evolution was not able to sync any calender entry).
After do some killall -KILL evolution* I could solve the issue.
I assume the problem could be related with unavailable owncloud server
during start-up of (Gnome, Evolution, or what services ever).
My owncloud is a test

Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
