I typed firefox -remote http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/ and it said
Error: Failed to send command: 500 command not parseable

Thank you for your bug. That looks like bug #94166. Could you run
"gconftool-2 --get /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command" and verify
the value is "firefox %s"? Does running "firefox -remote URL" opens a
new window correctly?
