I think this bug shouldn't be closed, as then people, which has problems
with ZIP drives on Ubuntu (look for example at bug #53251) can't find it
can cant suplly needed info for you.

So, to summarize:
* hal knows nothing about the ZIP drive.
* The system does not know about the ZIP drive after a clean boot.
* The kernel recognizes the drive properly and you can manually mount it after
'modprobe ppa'
Is that correct? If so, does hal see the ZIP drive after
sudo
I attached the lshal output, no sign of the zip drive in there.
I did another lshal after inserting a zip disk in the drive, but the file
was exactly the same (same size exactly).
I also added the messages that the kernel prints when I load the 'ppa'
module to detect the drive. There is one
