[Bug 157215] Re: Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours
** Description changed: After a fresh Gutsy install, I told the Date and Time applet to keep synchronized with time servers. It had been an hour off, so I expected this to set the time right, but it did not. I switched back to manual time, set the time correctly, and then switched back to the time server option. The new manually set time stayed. This tells me that synchronizing with the time server in fact does nothing. + + + + Steps to reproduce in Jaunty: + + run time-admin + set clock back a few hours + close + re-run time-admin + use "Synchronise with time server" option + close + + Notice time does not update to the correct time ** Summary changed: - Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours + [jaunty] Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours -- [jaunty] Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157215 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 157215] Re: Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours
To reproduce on Jaunty I ran time-admin, hit "unlock", put in my password, then changed "Configuration" from "Manual" to "Keep synchronized with Internet servers" I can't do a screen cast right now (I rendered my Jaunty partition unbootable during unrelated jiggery pokery) but if it would be very useful I will try to do one using the LiveCD. -- Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157215 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 157215] Re: Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours
The reason I asked for a screencast is because I fail to see where this Synchronisation option is in the Time/Date settings. I thought it was got rid of as an option in Hardy. How are you changing this option? [Bug 157215] Re: Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours
What would that screencast be like? You set some wrong time then wait for hours and the clock won't be set to the correct time. Teej: you shouldn't run ntpdate manually but wait for Ubuntu to set the correct time. However I just tried to run ntpdate: $ ntpdate 30 Jun 21:35:55 ntpdate[10462]: no servers can be used, exiting I do have 4-5 ntp servers ticked in the list in the time&date settings.
A screencast is always helpful as it shows the problem in action. Where is this synchronise option, as for the life of me I cannot find it? -- Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157215 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 157215] Re: Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours
I just reproduced the same bug in Jaunty Jackalope -- using "Synchronize with time servers" does nothing. It tries to install NPT support, but afterwards it still insists that NTP support is not installed and always reverts to the "manual" setting. If the bug is incomplete, please tell me what sort of documentation I should provide. [Bug 157215] Re: Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours
There is a threshold limit for how "wrong" the time can be ~1000 seconds I believe, before it doesn't update, although in Jaunty, I set my time back 5 hours, ran ntpdate and it updated perfectly fine. ** Changed in: gnome-system-tools (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- Synchronizing with a time server does not work when time difference is greater than several hours https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157215 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-system-tools in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
