I believe it is an ibus-daemon bug. I had the problem at least in gnome- terminal, firefox (but not under Unity), thunderbird. I solved it less brutally than flushing the whole user DConf database by resetting one key: dconf reset /org gnome/desktop/interface/gtk-im-module which contained the
