[Bug 1725888] Re: Ubuntu 17.10: clipboard contents lost if app is closed (Wayland)

2018-01-30 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
** Description changed:

Ubuntu 17.10 has no functioning clipboard manager. This means that if
you copy something from an application, and then close that application
before pasting it elsewhere, it's lost.

For now I was able to fix this issue by installing parcellite.

Also, there should be a better way to add a bug report to launchpad than
fudging it like i had to, but I brought this up as a bug before, to no
  joy.

  -Denny
+
+ Steps to reproduce this issue:
+ 1. Install 17.10, boot to desktop
+ 2. Open two applications, let's use a terminal and a browser for example
+ 3. Copy the hostname string from the terminal, paste it to the browser
+ 4. Close the terminal, try to paste the string to the browser again.
+
+ Expected result:
+ * Both step 3 and 4 should work as expected.
+
+ Actual result:
+ * Only step 3 works, after the application was close, the content in your
clipboard will lost.

[Bug 1725888] Re: Ubuntu 17.10: clipboard contents lost if app is closed (Wayland)

2017-10-24 Thread dennyg...@gmail.com
Sebastian Bacher, copying between any two programs currently doesn't
work unless both programs stay open. i.e., if I open a text editor and
copy the contents, then close the text editor and go to another program
(or the same text editor), the copied data will be gone. that's why you
need a clipboard manager.

[Bug 1725888] Re: Ubuntu 17.10: clipboard contents lost if app is closed (Wayland)

2017-10-23 Thread dennyg...@gmail.com
I can add this, this is a completely fresh install as of just three or
four days ago via the 17.10 iso. there should be then no trace of Unity,
of I am not mistaken. So i think I can attest to this being a gnome
issue via wayland. again, simply installing parcellite suffices, as long
as you don't mind the parcellite icon constantly being on the top right.
but a clipboard manager is really a necessary thing these days if you
work on your nix box like I do.
