2007-12-12 Thread Oliver Grawert
no, no, it is right to be installed and run by defaut on the server, that
behavior isnt right though (and doesnt show up here)
if gdm and the power manager are installed and runing, do you see any errors in
.xsession-errors of the user if you try to log out ?

Re: [Bug 173244] Re: Gnome not logging out with Edubuntu LTSP as a thin client

2007-12-12 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I have to take a look tomorrow, then. BTW, now, it's working, so I'm going
to try it another way (maybe in a VirtualBox) if I have to misconfigure
something.
I'll take a look at the error log, to see if there's something wrong. Ok, I
can test it a bit further, but I'm afraid it will stop working again, since
it's for working.
One thing: is it normal that when you log in, when the gnome panel appears,
it shows a green-man logo, and then shows the other one as the Log-out
icon?? (the door with the arrow). It seems like something is getting on
top of it, or that the Theme changes automatically, since I have realized
that some icons change 2 seconds after logging in, just after they get
loaded for the first time. Maybe it has something to do with the other
thing.
Thanks!!!

Re: [Bug 173244] Re: Gnome not logging out with Edubuntu LTSP as a thin client

2007-12-11 Thread Néstor Amigo Cairo
I got this solved. The problem was I had gdm installed and up on the server.
I removed gdm from the server, and it worked again perfectly. Can this be
possible?? Would it be possible to mask gdm package and block it from
installing on Edubuntu?? Because it messes up everything. BTW, would it be
possible to put an advice on this, for example, on installation?

I don't know how it could get installed, it's even possible I installed it
unadvertedly.
Thanks!!

2007/12/3, Néstor Amigo Cairo [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

I have checked it and everything is started (gdm and gnome-power-manager),
but it seems that when I reload gdm with:
 /etc/init.d/gdm restart
as root, on the server, then the log out dialog appears (with three
options: log out, change user and switch off). Anyways, it doesn't do
anything, just stops when I press the button.
I have tried with different users, the best thing I get is the dialog
appearing, but no luck at shutting computer down.
Something has changed in the last updates, I think, that has made it stop
 working.
 Thanks!!

[Bug 173244] Re: Gnome not logging out with Edubuntu LTSP as a thin client

2007-12-01 Thread Oliver Grawert
ltsp5 doesnt (and never did) use gdm, we use ldm, moved the bug to the
proper package

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: gdm
+ Binary package hint: ldm

I log in into Gnome via LTSP client, no problem. I can execute applications
perfectly. I have been always able to log out then, and session ended with no
problem. But since I updated Edubuntu 7.10 with the latest patches, I couldn't
do it anymore.
When I press log out, nothing appears. Then, I'm not able to open any
application other than Firefox, as far as I know. No error message is printed
out. I have to manually switch off computer. It doesn't work, no matter which
user is selected.
Then, if I switch on computer again, I'm able to log in again using LTSP, but
the same error appears when trying to exit.
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace works stopping session, but then GDM is not starting
again, so that's the reason why I posted bug here.
  Thanks!!

** Also affects: ldm (Ubuntu)

2007-12-01 Thread Oliver Grawert
can you check if gdm is running on the server, and if gnome-power-manager is
running in the users session ?
the gnome logout dialog queries gnome-power-manager first for suspend hibernate
capabilities and also uses gdm-signal. if neither answers that can cause the
logout dialog to not appear.

hmm, actually reading over what i wrote above seems a bit confusing so
let me rephrase that:

ltsp itself doesnt use gdm anywhere on the thin clients, logging in is
done via ldm which runs on the client.

gnome which runs in the session ldm has spawned *on the server* has some
functions that talk to the local gdm running on the server.
