All the icons in the dock random disappear at times on Ubuntu 17.10.
Seems to be related to using an Apple Magic Mouse, as this is when it
first happened for me, and also for another user who reported the issue
on Ask Ubuntu: https://askubuntu.com/questions/977456/ubuntu-17-10-dock-
