Thanks Tim for the head up so done some tweaks: - set [daemon] WaylandEnable=false to force Xorg login; should not it be the default now ? - set [debug] Enable=true for testing curiosity only. If /var/log/gdm/ subdir is not used now and deprecated since systemd is now default and journalctl
