[Bug 178544] Re: e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again
Looks like the latest proposed update for evolution-data-server, 2.22.1.1-0ubuntu2, works beautifully. However, it does seem to need the matching evolution and evolution-common in order for it to work. Without it, it acts the same as my previous comments. It should also be noted, that I deleted the 'Evolution' file in .gnome2_private when testing it, so I cannot confirm whether or not it migrates the password(s) automatically. -- e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 178544] Re: e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again
Forgot to also mention, that on first run with the update, terminal output displays: e-data-server-ui-Message: Unable to find password(s) in keyring (Keyring reports: No matching results) e-data-server-ui-Message: Key file does not have group 'Passwords-Mail' Despite this, though, it does, indeed, work. -- e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

the file does have a Passwords-Mail tag then, did you add the white space on the line start or is that on the disk? does removing it make the password migration work correctly? the passwords are not migrated right now but evolution still use those correctly right? -- e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

The new version has the password migration and a bunch of fixes, I've tested it on my laptop and it works correctly ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: evolution-data-server + The current evolution-data-server version doesn't use gnome-keyring so + the passwords are stored in .gnome2_private which is not ideally + security wise, using the gnome-keyring would be better - i think the issues that people had with using gnome-keyring have been - addressed, and it would be nice to see it re-enabled in evolution. + TESTCASE: + - run evolution + - configure a mail account or an ldap addressbook using a password for example + - look to Evolution in .gnome2_private to see lines corresponding to your accounts + - run seahorse, go to the password tabs and see that your evolution passwords are not listed + + close evolution, install the evolution-data-server upgrade and restart + evolution + + - the password are transparently migrated when accessing an account which require those + - try and make sure you can still use your mail account, ldap directory, etc + - look in .gnome2_private and see that the corresponding password lines have been cleaned + - start seahorse again + - switched to the password tab and see that your passwords are listed there now -- e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 178544] Re: e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again
I am concerned about including this change to reactivate gnome-keyring password migration via an SRU, as this is ultimately a feature / behavior change. We should get additional verification of this SRU, beyond the usual, before accepting into -updates, including a clear comparison of the UI differences between the two methods (will switching have any negative impact on being able to maintain one's passwords via the evolution UI, including deleting accounts?), and some longer sustained testing from evolution users. -- e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 178544] Re: e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again
My understanding is that the feature was disabled because of the problem that Gustavo had mentioned: previously, the keyring didn't unlock automatically at login, so if you saved your password, whenever you started evolution it would ask for the keyring password, thereby making saving the password less attractive. Migrating would be nice, since even after the user would re-enter their passwords, the old unencrypted password file remains. This starts to seem like an upstream bug, and indeed, there are a couple of mentions of it I can find on gnome bugzilla: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358872 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=271781 -- e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 178544] Re: e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again
Definitely! Keyring now can easily become transparent, no unlock keyring password annoyance anymore. And I _really_ hate to store passwords in a plain text file (well, it's base64 encoded IIRC, but that is trivial to crack), so I end up not saving some of my more sensitive passwords, which is double annoying :( -- e-d-s should use gnome-keyring again https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178544 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for evolution-data-server in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
