I have found a work-around to get back to desktop.
If you have locked the screen and it has hung you can lock/unlock by
using the SUPER + L hotkey (Or whatever your shortcut key is).

By disabling autohide, the error message in log does not go away, but
desktop will recover and does not end up with black screen after wake

I would suggest to reconsider #7. For me this this error is happening when
closing the lid. See few entries before crash (reverse order):

The issue still happens with all extensions disabled! Only de dock and
appindicators extensions are enabled.

Here, this is only happening after unlocking the screen. This seems not
to be obvious from the logs.

Is there some other steps i can take to help debug? It's very hard for me
to disable all extensions since i really depend on some of them to make my
desktop at least usable.

Actually, it's pretty obvious ubuntu-dock is crashing for you from the
above log.
However please still try removing all your other gnome-shell extensions
to see if that stops the problem from happening.
