That's bug #1798053, which was fixed in gnome-software 3.30.2-0ubuntu8.
Just install the latest updates in your VM.

[Bug 1816264] Re: software center stuck on Chrome package dialog

2019-03-20 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Well, I still can't reproduce with those steps :/ When the new dialog
opens in 6-7 it's the main windows and not the details from the previous
step, such there is no < to use...

The warning might give a clue to someone looking at the problem though
(ideally it should be reported upstream)

[Bug 1816264] Re: software center stuck on Chrome package dialog

2019-03-19 Thread Jann Horn
I previously launched it through the UI, so I didn't see the console
output; now I've launched it from the terminal. In the freshly booted
VM:

1. open two terminal windows (window A and window B)
2. in terminal window A, run "gnome-software"
3. click on a random app (I'm clicking on "powershell" under "Editor's Picks")
4. press the "X" in the top-right corner to close the window [note:
gnome-software stays running in the background!]
5. in window B, run "gnome-software"
6. focus the window that just opened
7. attempt to click the left-arrow in the upper-right corner of the window

At this point, window A shows the following (with an assertion failure
that sounds relevant):

user@ubuntu1810vm:~$ gnome-software

How do you call gnome-software? Here when closing and re-opening it
displays the main screen and not the previously open page. Could you add
your journalctl log after getting the issue?

Is that local files (deb) from the disk or any software in the store?

re #4: No, it doesn't seem to be specific to wayland - after switching
back to X11 and rebooting, the bug can still be triggered the same way.

[Bug 1816264] Re: software center stuck on Chrome package dialog

2019-02-16 Thread Jann Horn
[Testing on wayland, in case that matters.]

I downloaded a .deb file with Firefox, then opened it with "Ubuntu
Software Center", installed it, and then closed the dialog associated
with Ubuntu Software Center. Now, opening "Ubuntu Software Center" gets
me back to the dialog displaying details about the installed package,
and the "back" button in the upper left doesn't work.

Killing the gnome-software process and then relaunching the software
center gets me back to the software center's main screen. If I now click
on a package, the back button in the upper left works.

Simple reproducer in a freshly booted system:

 - open Ubuntu Software Center
 - click on some random package
 - close the window
 - open Ubuntu Software Center
 - attempt to use the back button ("<") in the upper-left corner of the window
