The issue is fixed in the snap-store which isn't listing snap updates in
the UI since those are handled automatically

I had exactly te same behaviour with LXD. The was a update notification
in gnome-shell. Clicking on it opened gnome-shell with the LXD update
but there was no update available.
snap changes shows that the snap has been autorefreshed.

I suspect it did autorefresh, but didn't confirm. But yeah, the issue
IMO is the UI one. Once I click update, I'd expect gnome-software to see
that it was already up to date and respond as though the update was
complete - i.e., go away :)

Thank you for your bug report. Was the snap maybe autorefreshed in the
background during the same time?
snap changes should give you an hint about that
Unsure how gnome-software can/should handle that properly (it should at
least refresh the list when changes are applied)
