Weirdly, you can't disable the extension within the 'Tweaks' 'extensions'
option, but if you install the gnome-shell-extension-prefs application (see
https://www.starryhope.com/notes/hide-desktop-icons-on-ubuntu-20.04/ for
details) then you get an 'Extensions' application where you can disable
Everything is still the same as @Aaron described. Extension cannot be
disabled in any normal way. Will try to force remove it now... :/

The user experience leaves a lot to be desired. At extensions.gnome.org
it shows as an extension which can be disabled and has updates. When I
turn it off, it doesn't turn off, and when I try to update it, it says I
can't update it because it is not turned off. Other extensions don't
work that
