Daniel, on Feb 2 I have changed to "Ubuntu on Wayland" at login as you
suggested and up till now I have had no issues with freezing.
But yesterday after few months I needed to record my screen and found
out that SimpleScreenRecorder program does not capture video if wayland
is used, so I switched
Thanks for all that. It certainly looks like a freeze because gnome-
shell is still running when you reboot the machine.
As a potential workaround, please try 'Ubuntu on Wayland' which is an
option on the login screen just before you enter your password.
Please also confirm you are not using any

Today happened again. I was working with remote desktop Remmina to
access my work-computer using Windows and suddenly mouse icon
disappeared and keyboard stopped responding.
This time background musing running on my Ubuntu host did not stop
playing, it looks like laptop did not completely freeze.

Today after 25 days without a freeze Ubuntu froze when I was in remote desktop
using Remmina.
- mouse pointer disappeared
- music running on Ubuntu was playing normaly
- I did ctrl+alt+f3 like suggested in #38 and kill remmina process with "kill
-9 " but Ubuntu was still frozen when I switched
A temporary workaround is to switch to tty via CTRL+ALT+F3 and kill the
remmina process.

Ubuntu 20.04 freezes
I have now disabled the HideTopBar extension, but it is going to be
difficult to find out if this is the cause of the problem, because
freezes happens sometimes one's per month. I don't know if I can live
without it such a long time. :-)
I have reported problem upstream to HideTopBar extension
The log in comment #34 certainly mentions /home/igor/.local/share/gnome-
shell/extensions/hidetop...@mathieu.bidon.ca so please uninstall it
fully while investigating this bug.

It may really be hidetop...@mathieu.bidon.ca Gnome Shell extension. Now
that you mention it again I opened up Extension application and try
playing with the extension and when pressing the new shortcut key (that
was not set until now), whole screen froze and I was requested to hard
reset the
I'm still suspicious of the hidetop...@mathieu.bidon.ca extension.
Please try uninstalling that and see if the problem still happens.

It happened again after 10 minutes... Interesting up till today it
hasn't happened for a month, but today two times in 10 minutes interval.
Like requested in #22 I am collecting files.

Few minutes ago this Remmina freeze has happened again. Remmina not
responding, no keyboard was responding. I was able to move mouse, but
mouse clicks have had no effect. Also musing was still playing on my
laptop (outside of Remmina).

Interesting talking about devil... It happened right now. Remmina
suddenly froze. This time I also lost mouse (no mouse pointer) and after
few seconds also music stopped playing on my PC, this indicates this
time whole system froze.
For #22 for step 2 I am attaching files.

@Daniel, I installed deb package for "performance" fix, you have written in #22.
But since 18th November freeze did not appear anymore. If it does I will try to

Last week I updated ubuntu from 20.04 to 18.04. Now I have Remmina
freezing after inactivity and will unfreeze after a while like 3-4
minutes. Won't take any keystrokes and all icons are greyed out.

Daniel, the problem is this is not reproducible problem. It just appears
out of the blue when using remmina for few days. I will try to collect
more info next time freeze appears.

Thanks. Unfortunately that didn't collect the information I had hoped.
Please:
1. Reboot fresh and then reproduce the freeze again ASAP.
2. Reboot again and then run:

and attach the resulting text files here.

it's managed by the Xorg process. So next we need more information about
