Same problem here: transfer starts well (about 15-20 Mb) but immediately (in
less than 20 seconds falls to 7-5 Mb) slows down upt to 1,5 Mb or less. That
problem doesn't appear in Windows XP SP3.
Here's my specs:
Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS 64 bits
Kernel version: Linux home 2.6.32-25-generic
System

x86_64 GNU/Linux
AMD 64 quad processor same problem
USB thumb drives formatted to fat, vfat, ntfs, ext3.
Various sizes 1gb - 16gb
various manufacturers
initial fast copy +320mb (or so it says) then slows to a crawl if it

Launchpad is slow
Sadly often true. I'm told this may be the major focus for later in
2010.
Put a message at the top
The usual thing is to change the description. There is a different bug
asking for ways for packagers to display more messages later.
Unfortunately some users won't
