I found a workaround for this. Open a nautilus window, go to Edit =
Preferences = Media and change the value for Music Player to something
other than Rhythmbox (ex: Do nothing or Ask what to do)

I am confirming having the same issue on rhythmbox 0.11.5-0ubuntu8. When
playing an mp3 and inserting an audio CD or an iPod, the mp3 stops
playing.
