I just purchased a Mac Mini with a radeon 9200 and powerpc chip. I get
the same flicker with the GLText screensaver as on my thinkpad.

Same here. Since upstream can't reproduce, I think we'll have to either
send him an ATI card or get someone with an ATI card that groks OpenGL
to fix it...

I also have this problem using a Radeon Mobility 7500. I can reproduce
this using xscreensaver-demo, going to Settings, Advanced and
changing the Visual to Default. With this setting I get what appears

I'm having problems with the GL screensavers as well on my ATI card
(9200m). Any of the screensavers flicker terribly under gnome-
screensaver. The problem goes away with the fglrx driver, but that
brings other troubles

Some of the hacks is still sluggish on my AMD64 with Mobility Radeon
9700. I do as usual run a fully up-to-date system with hourly package
lists refreshes from a.u.c :-).

I just confirmed this with the Dapper Flight 4 Live CD. Here are the
steps I went through to reproduce:
1) download dapper flight 4 live cd and burn it
2) boot
3) change DefaultDepth in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to 16 ( my T30

I forgot to say that the above comment was made using a current Dapper.
But since the flickering only happens with ATI cards, I'd guess it is a
driver problem.

Even though it looks like a driver problem, there still is the question
why this only happens with gnome-screensaver? Plain hacks don't have
this problem. Is gnome-screensaver doing something differently when

I have an ATI card (Radeon 9200se) and I am happily using the open
source xserver-xorg-driver-ati driver on Dapper.
I am experiencing similar issues: the GL hacks are fine when run from
xscreensaver or by themselves,
