Why did you removed the upstream task? don't do it, if the upstream was
marked as invalid the task link should remain there anyways, marking
this as invalid also. thanks.

They don't -- I've profiled this. The only slight exception (few hundred mW) is
nouveau, but it's not possible to disable the 3D without restarting X.

and the gist of my comments from upstream:
Nvidia and ATI both have algorithms that clock down the GPU when it is not in
use. Since compiz effects require significantly more GPU power, the GPU will
be clocked up for processing the 3D effects compiz requires. Higher clock
cycle = higher
