I've written a patch (attached) to gvfs that enables permissions to be
read - which I've been using for a week or so. I have also written code
for the set operation but it needs a little bit more work to tidy up,
which I'm prepared to do if it's going to be adopted by Ubuntu. I have
submitted the

Its definitely an issue in gvfs. Look at the upstream bug at the gnome
bugzilla, there you can read detailed information where the problem lies
and what is needed to solve it.

As a part of my job involves heavy backend development on web systems, which
are usually accessible via FTP, this would be a feature I would really like
to see enter Nautilus.
I would be willing to look into writing a patch for this, but need to know
more information on where this problem lies. Is
